Description and is it worth a visit
Ratchanadaram Temple (Wat Ratchanaddaram, also Ratchanadda, also Metal Castle) began to be built in 1846 by order of King Rama III, but until now the construction is still considered unfinished, which makes it the longest long–term construction in Thailand - more than 160 years. In practice, the temple has been operating for a long time and is visited by tourists, it's just that something is constantly being finished and redone here: for example, a couple of years ago it was covered with a black roof, and today it is already golden. By the way, because of this unusual architectural feature (roof), it got its popular name "Metal lock"
The temple is interesting, first of all, for its unusual architecture, different from other Thai temples. The name of the style was given by the name of the Ratanakosin peninsula, formed by the bend of the Chaopraya River, and on whose lands it is located. And this is the only temple in the world made in such architecture. the territory of the complex is quite large, decorated with greenery and beautiful buildings, but there are very few tourists here. Inside the main building (ubosota) on the ground floor there is a museum, which you can enter by leaving 20 baht in the donation box. The museum is not particularly spectacular, it tells about the history of the appearance and construction of the temple. But the most interesting thing is that from the museum you can climb to the very top. There is a stunning view of the surrounding area from there, and there are photos and maps with temples marked on them that can be seen from here. For each temple there is a brief description, address and indicated opening hours.
