By train

The railway line starts from Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand, passes through Ayutayu, Bangkok, Hua Hin, Chumphon, Surat Thani (from here you can get to Phuket and Koh Samui), Hat Yai. Then, through the territory of Malaysia, the railway goes through Alor Setar (Alor Star, from here they get to Langkawi Island, Butterworth, from here they get to Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and ends in Singapore. Unfortunately, it is impossible to buy a single train ticket on this route completely. Tickets are sold separately in Thailand and Malaysia. But in fact, this does not create any great difficulties, the main thing is to properly provide for transplants.
The station on the border between the countries is called Padang Besar. It is up to her that you need to buy tickets both from Thailand and from Malaysia. Passengers are dropped off at this station, passport and customs control is carried out, after which you can purchase tickets for the next train and go on. As well as by train, there are no direct bus flights from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur, but you can get to Hat Yai in Thailand, and then take the bus to Kuala Lumpur. Alternatively, take a bus to the Padang Besar border station, and from there take a train to Kuala Lumpur or other cities in Malaysia.

By ferry
The ferry service connects Thailand and Malaysia in the directions of Satun – Langkawi Island and Lipe Island – Langkawi Island.

This is the main way that travelers from Thailand get directly to Langkawi Island in Malaysia from the city Satun in the south of Thailand. Three high-speed ferries depart daily along the route.
