Foros Park
This is one of the most beautiful and well-groomed parks of the Crimea, people even come here from other resorts of the peninsula just to walk around it. It was founded in 1834 on an area of 70 hectares. The park is equipped with walking paths, benches for recreation, sculptural compositions, gazebos, ponds with fish, planted many exotic plants for the middle latitudes of Russia, very beautiful flowers. 🚶 How to get there: the entrance to the park is from Cosmonauts Street, the passage through the checkpoint of the sanatorium "Foros" (Foros Park on the map). From anywhere in the village you can easily get here on foot.
Foros Church of the Resurrection of Christ
The Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Foros or simply Foros Church is a beautiful temple in an incredibly picturesque place on Red Mountain at an altitude of 400 meters above sea level. It is a monument of Russian architecture built in 1892 and an object of cultural heritage of the peoples of the Russian Federation. Its construction was dedicated to the rescue of Emperor Alexander III and his family during the train crash that occurred on October 17, 1888 at the Borki station of the Kursk-Kharkov railway, when the train was traveling from Crimea to St. Petersburg. Then the train derailed, but the emperor and the family somehow miraculously did not suffer. After learning about this incident, a wealthy Russian tea merchant Alexander Grigorievich Kuznetsov decided to build a temple, for which he requested permission from the emperor himself. 🚶 How to get there: from the center of Foros to the church 9 kilometers by road (Foros Church on the map). You can get there on foot or by taxi, public transport does not go here. Baydar Gate
At the highest point of the Baydar mountain pass through the main ridge of the Crimean Mountains at an altitude of 503 meters there is an architectural monument – the Baydar Gate. They were built in 1848 according to the project of Yalta architect Karl Ivanovich Eshliman in honor of the completion of the Yalta — Sevastopol highway, now the old road or Sevastopol highway. There is an observation deck on top of the gate, which offers a magnificent panorama of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ, the sea, Foros and the surrounding mountains. It may not be worth going here on purpose, but if you drive by, you can make a stop for 10 minutes. In front of the gate there is a spacious Parking lot, a market with souvenirs and a cafe. 🚶 How to get there: from the center of Foros to the Baydar Gate by road a little more than 7 kilometers (Baydar Gate on the map). The road here leads through the Foros Church, so their visit should be combined. You can get there by taxi or private transport, public transport does not go here. Cape Sarych and the lighthouse
This is the southernmost point of the Crimean peninsula, a place with wonderful views and nature, as well as a base for tourists with tents. Unlike other famous capes and coastal attractions in these surroundings, Cape Buzzard is quite low, and during a walk along it you can even go down to the seashore. A 12-meter lighthouse, made entirely of cast iron and representing a collapsible structure, is installed at the tip of the Buzzard. It was produced in France in 1863 by order of Russia. 🚶 How to get there: Cape Sarych is located 6 kilometers from Foros, but in fact officially refers not to Big Yalta and Foros, but to Sevastopol (Cape Sarych and the lighthouse on the map). But since Foros is the resort closest to the cape, in our guidebook we attributed it to Foros. It is best to get here by car, but you can get there by bike or by buses running between Yalta and Sevastopol.
Temple of the Sun
The Temple of the Sun is a place of power and a unique natural landmark on Mount Tyshlar with a height of 560 meters. It is a rocky hill with many winding paths that will lead you to the sacred place of this attraction - several stone blocks sticking out of the ground. They resemble the petals of a flower, in the center of which there is an altar stone. Esotericists consider the Temple of the Sun to be a place of power, they come here to "pray", conduct rituals, and meditate. 🚶 How to get there: The Temple of the Sun is located on the territory of Sevastopol, but the nearest resort from which it is easier to visit is Foros in Bolshaya Yalta (Temple of the Sun on the map). From Foros to the Temple of the Sun is 8 kilometers, from the center of Sevastopol is almost 40, from Balaclavas about 30. You can get directly to the Temple only on foot, there is no way to get there by transport. There are several trails leading to it, the beginning of which is located on the South Coast highway.
The Devil's ladder or Shaitan-Merdwen
Shaitan Merdven mountain pass means Devil's Ladder in translation, its height is 578 m above sea level. This is one of the interesting natural attractions located 20 kilometers from the center of Foros. It is located between the two peaks of Merdven-kaya (580) - in the west and Balchik-kaya (856) - in the east. A rocky path runs along the gorge of these peaks, sometimes resembling a staircase, which is part of an interesting one-day route for tourists. 🚶 How to get there: The Devil's Ladder or Shaitan-Merdven is located near the village of Oliva in Bolshaya Yalta (Devil's Ladder or Shaitan-Merdwen on the map). You can visit it during the day both from the center of Yalta and from any other resort in Bolshaya Yalta, the closest to Shaitan-Merdven of which is Foros (8 kilometers), and the resort of Ponizovka (12 kilometers) is also nearby. Skelskaya cave
This is an amazing natural creation, as well as the largest cave in Crimea after The Red Cave by the number of representatives of flora and fauna found here. Calcite layers have formed bizarre shapes over many millennia. Using his imagination, the figures of animals and people are guessed in the stone formations, and stalactites and stalagmites, combining into a single form, turn into a single stalagmate. The length of the explored part of the Skelskaya cave is 687 meters, but only a part is available for inspection, namely 270 meters. 🚶 How to get there: Skelskaya cave is located in the Balaklava district of Sevastopol near the village of Rodnikovskoye (Skelskaya cave on the map). It is 40 kilometers from the center of Sevastopol, 32 kilometers from Balaklava, and 25 kilometers from Foros.
