The Christian Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Andrew the first-called in Pitsunda or simply the Patriarchal Cathedral of Pitsunda or the Pitsunda temple dates back to the IX-X centuries, and its construction is attributed to the Georgian King Bagrat III. Moreover, the current temple was built on the site of an older one, erected by the Romans in the IV century AD.from the XI to the XV century, the cathedral was repeatedly updated, and in the XVII century, due to the threat of attack by the Turks, it was completely abandoned. Restored only in the second half of the XIX century. Services are not held here, this is a historical object.

The temple

The temple is located on the territory of the architectural Reserve "Bolshoy Pitiunt" and its visit is included in the ticket price for visiting the reserve (organ concerts are paid separately and have nothing to do with these tickets). You can freely go inside, explore any premises, sit on the chairs intended for listeners of organ concerts. If you're lucky, and the organist is rehearsing at this time, you can listen to music. In the Far part of the Cathedral on the ground floor there is a tomb with two tombs, believed to be the apostles Andrew the first-called and Simon the Canaanite. Still go up to the second floor, where the balconies overlook the Great Hall.

The cathedral has very good acoustics, in connection with which in 1975 the German Masters installed an organ here, which works to this day. On certain days, according to the schedule, organ music concerts are held here, which anyone can visit, but only for an additional fee. Before the concert, visitors are given a tour of the temple. Это больше не храм, т.к. службы здесь не проводят, а скорее концертный зал. Интересен будет только любителям органной музыки. Остальным же будет спасением от жары и местом, где можно отдохнуть.
