Pitsunda state historical and architectural Reserve "Great Pitiunt" is the main attraction of Pitsunda resort. Pitiunt-the so-called ancient city on the site of modern Pitsunda, and it is believed that it appeared before our era. The first settlements on this site date back to the IV century BC, and in the I century BC the city was part of the Pontic Kingdom.
The complex is located in the center of Pitsunda and is surrounded by a stone wall, the remains of a fortress. Inside the territory there are several objects at once, the main of which is the Church of the Apostle Andrew the First-Called of the 10th century (aka The Pitsunda temple) with an organ on which organ music concerts take place. In addition to it, there are ruins of a basilica, an aqueduct, the remains of a bell tower, a chapel, a dolmen brought from the village of Esher. Also in one of the buildings of the monastery is the Museum of the history of Pitsunda, which presents artifacts found during archaeological excavations. All this can be viewed with one ticket purchased at the entrance except for the concert of organ music, which are held on separately purchased tickets (600 USD) at a certain time.

🚶 How to get there
Great Pitiunt is located in the center of Pitsunda, 8 Gitsba Street (complex on the map. From anywhere in the city it can be reached on foot and from other resorts by bus. From Gagra, fixed-route taxis and large buses depart from the former continent shopping center and go along the main street of Demerdzhip, cost 50-100 rubles, depart several times a day. They arrive at the Square directly in front of the Great Pitiunt. From other cities of Abkhazia you can get through Gagra, or get off on the main highway (Sukhumi Highway) turn onto Pitsunda, and take the bus directly to the village.
