Phu Quoc International Airport is a modern and compact terminal located in the central part of the island (Phu Quoc Airport on the map). Luckily for travelers, it's located quite close to the main resort areas, and you can get to your hotel quickly and without hassle. In this guide, we'll cover in detail all transfer options – from budget to maximum comfort.
Main advice: Install the Grab app (an analog of Uber) in advance – this will save you time and money. Also check if your hotel provides free transfer – many hotels on Phu Quoc offer this service.
🚖 Taxi – The Most Popular and Convenient Way
If you're traveling with luggage or tired after the flight, a taxi is the ideal choice. Over the past few years, taxi prices on Phu Quoc have become much more democratic since the Grab aggregator started operating.
How to order a taxi at the airport:
- Via the Grab app – this is our main recommendation. The price is fixed in the app, no need to bargain or worry about the meter. The trip can be paid in cash at the end. If a Russian SIM card doesn't receive SMS for registration, select Kazakhstan from the country list (code +7) or receive the code via WhatsApp.
- In the arrivals hall – at official taxi counters or from touts. Be prepared for inflated prices (from $20-50) and always bargain.
- Outside with drivers who have Grab – after exiting the terminal, many drivers themselves offer a trip at the app's price, showing it on their phone. But among them there are tricksters who show you the app, but then in the car state a different price, so agree on everything on the spot, and only then go to the car.
Taxi prices to main areas and beaches for reference:
- Long Beach near Duong Dong – from 120,000 VND / from 4.56 USD.
- Duong Dong center – from 130,000 VND / from 4.93 USD.
- SonaSea area – from 100,000 VND / from 3.8 USD.
- New SunsetTown city – from 240,000 VND / from 9.11 USD.
- Khem Beach – from 200,000 VND / from 7.59 USD.
- Bai Dai Beach and Grand World area – from 380,000 VND / from 14.42 USD.
Besides car taxis, you can also order motorcycle taxis in the Grab app. This will cost about half as much, but it's only suitable for travelers with a backpack, not suitcases.
🚌 VinBus Buses – The Best Budget Option
A real find for budget travelers! Comfortable air-conditioned VinBus buses will take you to most resort areas on the west coast. The fare costs from 20,000 to 50,000 VND depending on the trip distance.
How to find buses at the airport:
The stop is located in the airport parking lot immediately to the right of the terminal exit. The buses are modern, clean, and generally not overcrowded.
Here is information about the two airport routes:
- Bus #17. Goes from the airport along Long Beach to Duong Dong and further along the entire coast up to the GrandWorld complex. Here's the route on the map, schedule there too. Basically, this is the route that will suit you if you choose a hotel in the most developed and democratic tourist area on Phu Quoc.
- Bus #19. Also goes through the airport (in transit) from the new tourist areas along Long Beach south of the airport, and then again like #17 through Duong Dong to the GrandWorld complex. Here's the route on the map, schedule there too.
Useful advice: Download the VinBus app – it has current schedules and real-time route maps. Buses even run at night on schedule.
🚗 Transport Rental – Freedom to Travel Around the Island
If you plan to actively explore the island, renting transport right at the airport is a great idea.
-
Motorbike (Scooter) Rental:
- Price: from 80,000 VND per day (for long-term rental), from 120,000 for several days / from 3.04 USD.
- Where to find: private renters meet you right at the terminal exit
- Alternative: find a rental in advance via Google Maps and arrange for bike delivery to the airport
There are no official motorcycle (motorbike, scooter) rentals here, but private renters meet you upon exiting the terminal and offer to take a motorbike from them right here. At least they offered us, but that's no guarantee they're always here. So for reliability, you can find a rental online in advance on Google Maps by searching Motorbike for Rent, contact the owner via WhatsApp and arrange delivery to the airport; it's usually free. You can also find contacts of local rentals via search engines or book online on 🏍 BikesBooking.com.
Finally, there is a rental within walking distance of the airport: exit the terminal, go straight through the parking lot to the roundabout a bit less than a kilometer away; there's a rental there.
The actual price for a one-day rental starts from 120,000 VND, and for several days you can negotiate for 100,000 and even 80,000 for an old semi-automatic scooter.
