One of the types of taxi in Thailand is a motorcycle taxi (locals call them "motosai", motosai). This is a great and inexpensive way to get around, but quite extreme and not always suitable for traveling with large bags.
You can catch a motorcycle taxi on any street in any city in Thailand, not just in tourist places. You don't even have to look for them, they themselves offer their servants at every turn, especially in tourist places, near shopping centers and train stations.
By law, all motorcycle taxis must be official and licensed, their drivers are dressed in special bright vests that allow them to be distinguished from ordinary motorcyclists and private traders.
The fare for a motorcycle taxi is much lower relative to a regular car taxi, but at the same time, due to ignorance, you can overpay for a trip at times. To prevent this from happening, the government of Thailand has established uniform prices for motorcycle taxi services throughout the country. Using the data below, you can roughly navigate the price so as not to be deceived.
| The first two kilometers of the trip | no more than 25 baht (see currency of Thailand, exchange rate) |
| The trip is from 2 to 5 kilometers | 25 baht + 2-5 baht per kilometer after 2 kilometers of travel |
| The trip is from 5 to 15 kilometers | 10 baht per kilometer |
| The trip is over 15 kilometers | negotiable price, but not more than 150 baht |
Of course, in practice, far from all motosai are ready to transport passengers, especially tourists, at established state prices. Tourists are often charged twice as much as locals. Therefore, be sure to find out before the trip how much it will cost you to get to the right place and, if necessary, bargain. And another tip: try to name the place where you need to get to as accurately as possible, including the area, otherwise you may not get where you need to go at all.
