What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting
An abandoned hydrogen sulfide spring in the Khostinsky district and not far from the center of Sochi is a natural source of natural healing water and mud, remaining on the site of bathing baths built in Soviet times. Locals say that baths for hydrogen sulfide procedures were built here for Stalin, and after the death of the leader this place was abandoned. We cannot confirm or deny this story, but there are definitely remnants of bathing buildings here, the only question is who they were intended for.
Now these hydrogen sulfide sources have become completely "popular", anyone can visit them, and for free. Here you can swim in hydrogen sulfide water in the open-air swimming pool, from the shower in an old building, or right in the stream; get smeared with supposedly therapeutic mud that can be collected at the bottom of the pool or in the stream; well, or just relax on the riverbank and swim in refreshing water.
By the way, the water in the spring is not at all hot, as many people think, but on the contrary quite cool. It gives off a persistent smell of hydrogen sulfide (rotten eggs), which can and should be washed off after bathing in the water of the stream. And a very important point: it is believed that water and mud are very active here, so do not be too zealous with the treatment and limit bathing and mud to 20 minutes, otherwise the benefits can go to harm.
We advise you to combine a visit to abandoned sulfur springs with a walk along the Agur Gorge and waterfalls ecotrope Sochi National Park, the entrance to the gorge is located next to the springs.

🚶 How to get there
The abandoned hydrogen sulfide spring is located in Khostinsky district in Matsesta, 12 kilometers from the center of Sochi and 20 kilometers from Adler (Abandoned hydrogen sulfide spring on the map). If you are poorly oriented in this area, then there is an important and well-known landmark - this is the entrance to the tourist route Agur gorge and cafe "Caucasian aul".
If you go here by your own transport, then just build a route in the navigator to the parking lot at the entrance to the Agura Waterfalls, parking is free here. Further from the parking lot, you need to walk a few minutes along the trail or dirt road to the left to the stream, or rather to the Agura River, and you will get to the springs.
If you don't have your own transport, then there are no big problems getting here by taxi or public transport. By city buses you can get to the stops "Sputnik" (routes No. 2, 48, 115) or "Sanatorium "Green Grove" (routes No. 48, 50, 105, 105c, 125p, 125c), and from there to the source on foot 20 and 30 minutes, respectively, for a landmark you need to go to the entrance to Agur waterfalls/gorge.
