What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting

Museum "Chekhov and the Crimea" at the cottage "Omur" is located one and a half kilometers from the house-museum of A.P. Chekhov ("White Cottage") in the oldest and majestic mansion of the Ilovaisky family - cottage "Omur", and the building itself attracts attention. The mansion was built in 1888, and today is a monument of cultural heritage of Russia.

In anticipation of the completion of the construction of the "White Cottage", A.P. Chekhov was sheltered by the owner of the villa "Omur" Kapitolina Mikhailovna Ilovaiskaya. She was from a noble family and had acquaintances with many famous people. Thanks to this, such great artists as A.M. Gorky, M.A. Voloshin, L.N. Tolstoy visited the house.

A.P. Chekhov occupied two rooms on the ground floor, in which the museum is located today. There are few exhibits, but they are all closely related to the period of the writer's life. Living, albeit temporarily, he did not stop working and here he wrote such stories as "The New Dacha", "on service business", "A case from practice", "Darling", began work on "The Lady with the Dog".

The permanent exposition of the museum has been open since 2015, and before that temporary exhibitions were held. When visiting the museum, an audio guide is provided, but if there are any questions, the staff will be happy to answer them.

This museum is part of the museum complex "Crimean Literary and Art Memorial Museum Reserve", which includes 4 museums: Chekhov House Museum in Yalta, Museum "Chekhov and Crimea" at the dacha "Omur" in Yalta, The dacha of A.P. Chekhov and O.L. Knipper in Gurzuf, A. S. Pushkin Museum in Gurzuf.
