What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting
The house-Museum of A.P. Chekhov in Yalta, also known as the "White Cottage", was built in 1899 at the writer's expense. The great Russian classic, writer, playwright, doctor Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860-1904) lived here until his death. The museum will be interesting not only for connoisseurs of his work, but also for all vacationers. After all, in addition to the story about the writer, here you can see the authentic interiors of the furnishings and everyday life of the late XIX-early XX century.
The writer was engaged in the arrangement of a new house together with his sister Maria Pavlovna Chekhov and mother Evgenia Yakovlevna. There are nine rooms in the house, but not all of them can be entered, viewing is carried out from the front door. Visiting the house-museum is provided only with excursion service.
Thanks to the efforts of his sister, who took over the management of the future museum, the furnishings in the house and the writer's personal belongings were preserved in their original form. The workplace where his famous works "Three Sisters", "Cherry Orchard", "Lady with a Dog", "on Christmas Eve", "Bride", "Bishop" were written remained unchanged.
The garden adjacent to the house was planned and planted by the writer himself. Today, half of the plants that A.P. Chekhov personally planted are still preserved in it.
This museum is part of the museum complex "Crimean Literary and Art Memorial Museum Reserve", which includes 4 museums: the House Museum of A.P. Chekhov in Yalta, the Museum "Chekhov and the Crimea" at the cottage "Omur" in Yalta, The dacha of A.P. Chekhov and O.L. Knipper in Gurzuf, A. S. Pushkin Museum in Gurzuf.
