New Gagra Embankment is one of the few places for quiet walks in this part of the resort. The total length of the entire embankment here is about one and a half kilometers, but the equipped and renovated part is a little less than a kilometer long. Restaurants and cafes work on the embankment and along it, there are budget canteens, excursions to all corners of Abkhazia and even to Sochi are sold, there are souvenir shops. Interesting places and sights on the Gagra embankment
On the embankment there is a snow–white rotunda or a new colonnade - this is one of the iconic points and a place for photographing. Nearby there is a Malibu amusement park and a Ferris wheel, where children can ride one of several simple attractions, and adults will be interested in a Ferris wheel with views of the city and the coast. Also in the southern part of the embankment there is the largest water park in Abkhazia (there are two water parks in Abkhazia). Well, during the walk you can deviate a little and walk to one of the iconic memorable points - Independence Memorial in Glory Park. On the same square there is a rental of children's electric cars.
What are the beaches near the Gagra embankment
The central beach along the promenade in Novaya Gagra is pebbly, with small and medium pebbles, there is a little gray sand on the shore. Ideally, you should swim here in swimming shoes, you can buy such "aqua shoes" here in the markets from 400 rubles per pair. The slope of the bottom here is smooth, suitable for children. However, we have never seen lifeguards on this beach, so keep a close eye on the kids. The beach is very modestly equipped: beach chairs and umbrellas are offered for rent on the shore (from 200 rubles / day), there are several changing booths, and there are ubiquitous sellers of boiled corn and beer, there is nothing else.
From entertainment, they offer the rental of boards for sap-surf (from 700 rubles / hour), catamarans (from 1500 rubles / hour), banana and jet ski rides, there are trampolines for children. There is no separate technical safety zone for water entertainment here, so be careful, because boats and jet skis float right between vacationers.
But, unfortunately, it's a stretch to call this beach attractive and beautiful. While you are looking at the sea, everything is fine, but if you turn around towards the city, you can experience an unpleasant shock. The views here are spoiled by the old concrete foundations of the embankment and coastal fortifications, built in Soviet times, and since then abandoned. Huge blocks of concrete with rebar sticking out of them are lying on the shore, and tourists in the reviews say that dangerous rebar comes across under water. If you go to the southern edge of the embankment and the beach, then the situation with concrete and garbage is generally terrifying.
An important moment! In Abkhazia, a walk in a swimsuit outside the beaches is an offense, for which a fine of up to 6 thousand rubles is provided. This applies, among other things, to walking along the embankment, and warning signs are installed here for a reason.
