What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting
Sukhum fortress or Sukhum-Kale was built by the Turks in 1724, and for a long time the city's territory was only within its small territory. Unfortunately, almost nothing has survived from the fortress, and today it is a wasteland near the embankment, fenced and closed to the public. Perhaps in the future archaeological excavations and restoration will be carried out, but for now you can see only part of the fortress structure right on the embankment opposite the entrance (called "Fortress of Dioscuria"). But even these ruins are not properly protected, and are gradually destroyed by tourists and locals.
