There are a lot of accommodation options in Sukhum. Here you can easily find a budget guest house or apartments for family accommodation, and there are even several hotels equated to four and five stars. It seemed to us (the authors of the site) that the prices for accommodation here are lower than in Gagra, Pitsunda and New Athos, and quite compete with small villages. Western residents explain this by the fact that the tourist flow from the Russian Federation almost does not reach here, and therefore they are forced to reduce prices. Therefore, if you choose to pick up accommodation in Sukhum on the spot, you can always try to bargain if the price seems too high to you.
However, we would not recommend looking for accommodation on the spot upon arrival, but to book it in advance, since there is no separate tourist area in Sukhumi and a place of concentration of hotels and accommodation where you can come and walk in search of accommodation options.

Where to stay, which area to choose
There is no clear division into districts in the city, but it is possible to conditionally distinguish the city center and its outskirts.
You can find accommodation both in the center and on the outskirts, it all depends on your preferences on the beaches (see more about the beaches of Sukhum here...). Our choice of place to stay in Sukhum is the city center and closer to the embankment. This part of the city is the most fun, clean and modern. There are entertainment along the embankment, cafes and restaurants, shops, and the embankment itself is well suited for daily walks or evening promenade. If you stop on the outskirts of the city, then there will be no infrastructure there, and you will have to get to the entertainment and the embankment in the center by transport, or walk a lot. The only reason to choose accommodation far from the waterfront and the center is a limited budget, since the price of accommodation drops significantly as you move away.
