Description and is it worth visiting
If you are staying only in Sapa and do not plan to participate in tours outside the city, then Ham Rong Mountain and Park (Ham Rong Mountain) will be an excellent option to get acquainted with part of the local flora, fauna, and breathtaking landscapes. However, it's worth noting an important point right away: if you are lucky with the weather. If it rains and the city is covered by clouds, you won't be able to see anything.
At the foot of Ham Rong Mountain, there is a beautiful park with gardens, an orchid park, artificial waterfalls, original sculptures, equipped viewing platforms and resting places. There is even a children's playground, and at certain times tourists are shown a traditional show with dances and songs (3-4 times a day). Among the natural formations in the park, there are shallow caves and volcanic rocks of bizarre shapes.
After walking through the park, you can climb to the observation platform, which offers a stunning view of Sapa and the surrounding area. But remember the weather! We climbed here twice at different times of the year, but each time we encountered such dense fog that we couldn't see anything at all.
Most of the path to the viewpoint goes along convenient stairs and paths, but it constantly leads up and down, and overall you will have to climb more than 150 meters relative to the center.
Previously, you could climb even higher along paths to the summit of Ham Rong Mountain at an altitude of 1908 meters (a climb of more than 300 meters from the center). But in 2025, the passage to this trail was completely blocked with barbed wire, as it is already an unofficial part of the route. Perhaps there are still some passages to it, but we couldn't find them. If you decide to try to find a passage too, use navigation on maps like Organic maps, Maps Me and the like, so as not to get lost. And share your experience in the comments.
You should allocate at least 2 hours for visiting the park, and if you decide to climb to the very top point, another 4 hours.
By the way, in winter (in January-February) the park is sometimes even covered with snow, and then exotic plants and palms look very bizarre, although there is no riot of colors and diversity of vegetation. In winter, almost all flowers are withered.
