Ho Chi Minh City's Secret Weapons Bunker Museum and how to visit it

Description and is it worth a visit

The museum is a secret weapons bunker

Secret weapon bunker is an unpopular place among tourists, excursions are not conducted here, and indeed few people know about this museum and guidebooks do not tell about it. This is a residential building, in the basement of which was equipped with a cache for storing more than 2 tons of various weapons by the rebels, including Soviet AK-74, and ammunition, some samples are still on display in the museum today. This is a real place, everything is preserved almost the same as it was.

The museum is dedicated to the period of the Vietnam-American war, or rather the Tet offensive of 1968. During the New Year's truce related to the celebration of the New Year according to the Vietnamese calendar (Tet), on the night of January 31 to February 1, Vietnamese special forces using weapons from this basement attacked the Palace of Independence. During this uprising, the resistance forces failed to defeat the American troops, but the historical significance of this attempt is invaluable to the people.

The house belongs to a descendant of one of the participants in those events. The room consists of 2 floors and a basement, equipped for museum expositions. There is not much information and exhibits, all in Vietnamese. But the museum staff is very attentive and kind to every visitor. They take you around the building, offer you to go down to the bunker. However, you will not be given a full-fledged excursion, since this is not a commercial museum and no one knows English here.

The weapons bunker is not easy to find, as it is located among residential buildings in one of the usual alleys. There are no signs and signs indicating the location of the museum. Only when you come up close you can see the signboard with information about the bunker. But be careful! To the left of the entrance to the real museum next door is a similar paid museum. Even we did not immediately notice the difference: both museums are located next door, exhibits of an approximate historical period. It's easy to overlook the catch. However, the fake museum is paid and has nothing to do with the real bunker.

The secret bunker is definitely an interesting and unusual place compared to the rest of the sights of Saigon, and therefore, in our opinion, it deserves attention and is worth a visit.

It's not easy to find a museum, it's located on this street
The entrance to the real museum is on the right, and on the left is paid
Inside there are two such narrow floors and a basement
All information in Vietnamese
But there is something in Russian!!!
"Combat" moped
Weapons were secretly transported in such mats
Be sure to go down to the basement
It was here that the weapons were stored
On the floor is the same hatch with tiles to hide the entrance to the basement
There are gunfire marks on the front door

🚶 How to get there

The Museum of the Secret Weapons Bunker is located 20-30 minutes walk from the tourist street Pham Ngu Lao at 287/70 Nguyen Dình St (Museum Secret weapon bunker on the map). It's not easy to find it, there are no pointers. We need to go strictly to the point that is indicated on our map. From other areas of Ho Chi Minh City it is better to go by taxi or bus. If you do not understand the local routes, then you can use Google maps to find the bus number. A taxi ride around the city will cost from 30,000 VND (1.14 USD) when ordering via apps. It is also now possible to get there by metro, the nearest station is located next to Ben Tan market. It's more like everything about Ho Chi Minh City transport and what to use here.
