Description and is it worth a visit
Reunification Palace is located near Notre Dame de Saigon (106 Nguyen Du Street), and about twenty minutes walk from the tourist area Ho Chi Minh City. Also known as Independence Palace.
This is a historical place, although in a sense it can be called a museum. Former President's Palace Vietnam. For the Vietnamese, this palace is a symbol of the end of the war, since it officially ended on April 30, 1975, when a tank of North Vietnamese troops broke through the gates of the palace and entered the territory.
In general, the history of this place began long before the Vietnam-American War. Norodom Palace was originally built in the 19th century. In February 1962, already during the War, Two South Vietnamese bombers struck the palace, and the palace was severely damaged, almost completely destroying the left wing. The palace was rebuilt and from 1967 it became the residence of the president of South Vietnam, General Nguyen Van Thieu, until in 1975 a North Vietnamese tank "arrived" in it.
You can wander around the premises of the palace, see numerous exhibits, see a film about its history. It is said that the furnishings of many rooms are recreated with great accuracy. Around the palace there is a park in which, in addition to interesting plants, you will see several units of military equipment that directly participated in historical events. Among them is a tank of the same model that entered the palace in 1975, as well as a jet bomber that bombed it. On the top floor and on the roof you can see a helicopter.
In general, this place is quite interesting and historically significant, and definitely worth a visit if you have enough time for it. For those who simply do not have enough visits, they can even rent some parts of the palace for banquets and celebrations.
