Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) is the main transport hub of South Vietnam, where international tourists usually arrive. There are several ways to get to Ho Chi Minh City from the resort towns of Phan Thiet and Mui Ne, and the choice depends on your budget, time frame and comfort preferences.
To understand the route correctly, it is worth clarifying: Phan Thiet is a city, and Mui Ne is an adjacent resort area. If you are not traveling by taxi from your hotel in Mui Ne, then most often you first need to get to the Phan Thiet bus station or to one of the departure points of transport in the resort area. But let's talk about everything in more detail:
🚖 By taxi
- 💵 Cost: from $65 / 65 USD
- ⏲ Travel time: 3-5 hours
Finding a taxi from Mui Ne to Ho Chi Minh City or the airport is not a problem at any time. However, we strongly recommend that you take care of booking in advance – at least one day before the trip through the hotel, local travel agencies, or you can book a transfer online. So you will get a better price and a guaranteed car at the right time.
You can order a transfer at kiwitaxi or intui.travel:
🚌 By bus
- 💵 Cost: from 200,000 VND / (rate temporary unavailable USD).
- ⏲ Travel time: 5-6 hours
The bus is the most popular and economical way to get from Mui Ne and Phan Thiet to Ho Chi Minh City. There are several departure options in the resort area of Mui Ne, which makes this method very convenient for tourists.
We recommend a large company Futa Bus Lines. They have a bus station almost near the village of Muine (Mui Ne bus station on the map), and their buses pick up passengers throughout the resort area. What is especially convenient – after buying a ticket, you can be picked up directly from the hotel or the nearest collection point. Tickets can be purchased on their website online, but Russian cards do not work there, so you will have to get to the bus station in Mui Ne at the point above and buy a ticket there. We recommend doing this in advance the day before the trip. But from our practice we can say that the buses do not run crowded, so if you can't buy in advance, you can come to the bus station and buy tickets for the next bus day in day out.
Futa buses are comfortable, sleeping type, with air conditioning. In our experience, they have the most affordable prices – from 200,000 VND. In Ho Chi Minh City, they arrive at one of the bus stations on the outskirts of the city, from where you will be transported free of charge by minibus to the tourist area (Pham Ngu Lao Street) – this service is already included in the ticket price.
Tickets can be purchased:
- In the travel agencies of Mui Ne and Phan Thiet
- At the hotel (but there may be a small mark-up)
- On the website futabus.vn (requires a foreign bank card) or at the bus station for cash
- Via the aggregator 12go.asia

🚗 On a rented car
- 💵 Cost: from $45 per day / 45 USD
- ⏲ Travel time: 3-5 hours
If you prefer independence and want to travel on your own schedule, renting a car is a great option. There are several local rental companies in Mui Ne and Phan Thiet, as well as the possibility to book a car online.
But obviously, if you need to drive in one direction, then the rental option is suitable only if you first rent a car in Ho Chi Minh City, and there you will return it. It is especially convenient to do this at the airport upon arrival, and then return it there before flying back.
An important point: To legally drive a vehicle in Vietnam, an international driver's license (IDP) is required along with a national license. The IDP must comply with the requirements of the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic. Such rights are issued in the Russian Federation, and to obtain them you do not need to take exams – just pay a state duty of 3200 rubles to the traffic police. Learn more about what rights are needed in Vietnam, read the separate instructions here...
The cost of renting a car in Mui Ne is usually slightly lower than in Ho Chi Minh City – from $ 45 per day. You can book a car through international services:
🚆 By train
- 💵 Cost: from 161,000 VND / 6.12 USD
- ⏲ Travel time: 3-4 hours + travel time to the station
To be honest, we do not consider the option of a train from Phan Thiet to Ho Chi Minh City to be the most convenient. The main problem is that the railway stations are far from the resort area of Mui Ne, and they still need to be reached somehow.
There are two stations near Phan Thiet:
-
Binh Tuan Station
Binh Thuan, a former Muong man station, is located 15 kilometers from Phan Thiet (Binh Thuan railway station on Phan Thiet map). From the resort area of Mui Ne to this railway station 30 km. You can get to it by taxi from 450,000 VND(17.11 USD) when ordering via Grab or Maxim applications. Instead of a taxi, you can get a budget bus number 1 to the center of Phan Thiet, there at the Coop Mart shopping center, transfer to bus number 9 to the station. For more information about these buses and how to use them, see the article about the transport of Phan Thiet and Mui Ne here...
The main branch of the railway of Vietnam passes through this station, and you can leave here not only to Ho Chi Minh City, but also to Hanoi, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Fanrang, Hue and other cities. The only thing to keep in mind when planning a route is that not all trains stop at this station.
There are at least 6 trains daily to Ho Chi Minh Ga Saigon Railway Station from here. The journey takes 2.5 – 3 hours. It is not necessary to buy tickets in advance, they are available before departure.
It is best to check the schedule, cost and availability of tickets on the official website of Vietnam Railways - https://dsvn.vn/, but it is impossible to buy tickets with payment by Russian cards there. If you do not have a foreign card, you will have to buy tickets at the ticket offices at the station or at street travel agencies.
-
Phan Thiet Station
Another Phan Thiet Railway Station is located much closer to the center of Phan Thiet, almost on its outskirts (Phan Thiet railway station on the map). It can also be reached by taxi (approximately 300,000 VND from the center of Mui Ne), or by bus number 9.
There are trains from this station only to Ho Chi Minh City, this is the SPT1 train. Seats are only seated, ticket from 161 000 VND (6.12 USD). The train departs at 13:00.
Comparative table of methods
| Method | Time | Cost | Comfort | Flexibility |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Taxi | 3-5 hours | from $65 | Very high | Maximum |
| Bus | 5-6 hours | from 200,000 VND | High | High |

| The train | 5-7 hours | from 161 000 VND | Medium | Low |
Final recommendations
Our choice: For most tourists, the best option would be Futa Bus Lines. This is the perfect combination of price, comfort and convenience – you will be picked up from your hotel in Mui Ne and taken directly to the tourist area of Ho Chi Minh City.
- For budget travelers: The bus is the best value for money.
- For families and companies: Taxi or car rental – comfort and flexibility are worth the extra money.
- For railway lovers: Train – but be prepared for additional transfers and inconveniences.
Whichever way you choose, the road from Mui Ne and Phan Thiet to Ho Chi Minh City is well established and will not cause any problems. Have a nice trip!
