Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) - description and cost

Article and Section Navigation

Traditionally, Russian-speaking tourists believe that in Ho Chi Minh City there is nothing to do and see. Most tourists, unfortunately, believe: since there are no beaches and some significant attractions in Ho Chi Minh City, then there is no reason to go there. But, in fact, although the city itself is really not rich in special historical sights, a huge number of excursions are offered from Ho Chi Minh City, with which you can see not only the entire southern part of Vietnam, but even visit neighboring Cambodia or Laos. But what is especially good, the prices for excursions from Ho Chi Minh City are obscenely cheaper than the same excursions from popular resorts in the south, such as Mui Ne, Vung Tau or Nha Trang.

You can buy excursions at any travel agency on the streets of the city, especially many of them in the tourist area of Ho Chi Minh City on Pham Ngu Lao Street and on neighboring streets, as well as in hotels. It is absolutely safe to buy tours there, the only inconvenience is that the whole market is focused on English – speaking tourists. Excursions in Russian are difficult to find, because there are still very few Russian-speaking tourists here.

Payment for excursions can be made as in Dong (see currency of Vietnamand exchange rate), and in dollars. Both group tours and individual tours are sold everywhere.

Here's a guide list and brief description of excursions from Ho Chi Minh City from several popular Vietnamese tour operators:

Cu Chi Tunnels Tour

Ku-Chi Tunnels

This is perhaps the most popular and most famous excursion of all the attractions of Ho Chi Minh City, and it is really worth a visit.

The Ku Chi Tunnels are located outside the city, about 30 kilometers away, and in the 1960s were actively used during the war with the United States. The scale of the tunnel system is astounding: the tunnel system stretched from the capital of South Vietnam to the Cambodian border; there are 250 km of tunnels in Cu Chi district alone.

During the tour, tourists will be invited not only to look at the tunnels and some exhibits of hostilities from the side, but also to try to go underground themselves, which is definitely worth doing. True, for large people it will be problematic to do this, the tunnels are very narrow. The program also includes watching a short documentary, visiting the shooting range (optional), tasting local tea and tapioca.

Tourists may be a little discouraged by the price of this tour: in some places it costs from $ 5 for a half-day tour, and in others up to $ 30. The fact is that the price of the cheapest tour for 5 dollars, apparently, is partly paid for by factories for the production of goods for tourists, where they are usually imported along the way. In more expensive excursions, this is not in the program, but a visit to some other attractions is included. There is also a fairly expensive version of this tour on a speedboat.

Cost: You can find a tour for 100 00 VND (about 4.5 dollars), and up to 30 dollars. In inexpensive tours, you will have to pay an additional entrance fee of 90,000 VND. A boat tour starts at $ 15.

Duration: half or full day.

Mekong Delta tour

Mekong tour

This tour is also one of the most famous and popular and quite competes with the tunnels of Ku-Chi. This is one of the most intense and interesting tours. There are varieties of this excursion for one or several days, by bus or boat, with overnight stays in hotels or by boat. There is also a one-way tour across the Mekong Delta to Cambodia. Another variation is the Mekong bike tour.

During the tour you will visit fruit and fish farms, spice farms, apiaries, rice noodle and coconut candy factories, floating markets, temples and other historical and cultural attractions, Cham villages.

We recommend taking a two-day tour as you won't see much in one day and three days is too long. A one-way tour through the Mekong to Cambodia is best taken for three days, as almost the entire last day will be spent on the move. If you still decide to take a one-day tour, then it is better to choose a move on a speedboat (speedboat): such a tour, although more expensive, will have time to see more.

Cost: A one-day tour costs from 165,000 VND ($8). Tour for three days with hotel accommodation-from $ 40.

Depending on the duration of the tour program and the place of purchase, the cost varies greatly. Sometimes the same tour is sold in neighboring travel agencies at a price that differs by half, so it makes real sense to go and compare prices in several agencies.

The price of tours for several days usually includes the cost of hotel accommodation and breakfast, but it is better to specify all the details when buying an excursion, since in Vietnam all sorts of surprises are not excluded

Duration: 1-3 days

Citytour (City tour or Discovery tour)

This is a traditional half-or full-day sightseeing tour of Ho Chi Minh City attractions. Most often you can find a half-day tour. The tour programs are quite different, but almost always include visits to: Ben Tan market; Ho Chi Minh City Historical Museum or war crimes Museum; Thien Hau Temple; Notre Dame de Saigon Cathedral; Reunification Palace. Of course, the tour program includes a stop at affiliated jewelry or souvenir shops. Some tours include a cycle rickshaw ride around Chinatown.

Cost: from $ 6. Does not include the cost of admission to museums and palaces.

Duration: half or full day. Half-day tours are conducted in the morning and in the afternoon.

Mui Ne Beach Tour

For those who come to Ho Chi Minh City for a long time, we offer an excellent opportunity to visit on the beaches of Mui Nein an organized manner. This is an overnight tour in Mui Ne, visit the beaches, drive to the white dunes and lotus lake.

Nha Trang beach tour

Similar to the Mui Ne tour, this Nha Trang Tour includes Nha Trang beaches and some of its attractions.

Cost: from $ 80.

Duration: one day, 2 and 3 days

Cambodia tours

Ho Chi Minh City is the perfect place to start your Cambodia tour to Angkor (Siem Reap) and in Phnom Penh. Such tours, unfortunately, are not cheap, but they are worth it. Usually these are multi-day tours, and it makes sense to take longer tours, since only two days will be spent on moving.

Do not forget that to visit Cambodia you will have to apply for a visa on arrival or an e-visa, the cost of which is not included in the Tour ($25).

Cost: from $ 200.

Duration: from 3 days

Laos excursions

Ho Chi Minh City is not the best place in Vietnam to start a tour to Laos, but similar tours are offered here. To visit Laos, Russians do not need a visa for up to 15 days.

Cost: from $ 280.

Duration: from 3 days
