Hanoi has a developed public transport system of city buses, which will be very useful for tourists, and especially budget travelers. By city buses you can get inexpensively from the airport and to the airport, to the railway station or intercity bus stations, as well as to some remote attractions of Hanoi.
Buses are comfortable and almost always empty, except for overcrowding only on certain routes and during rush hour. Most buses have air conditioning and even have WiFi, but it unfortunately doesn't work almost anywhere.
All buses follow strictly the routes, and stop only at bus stops. Stops are full-fledged with waiting benches and a roof, as well as information about routes and a map. But some stops are only a pole with the sign and signature Xe Buyt and the numbers of the routes stopping here.
- 🕐 Working hours: differs depending on the routes, but mostly it is from 05:00 to 21:00
- Bus frequency: depending on the route from 10 to 30 minutes
- Fare/payment: on most city routes it is 7000 VND (approximately 0.27 USD, see Vietnam's currency and exchange rate), on some flights to the suburbs and the airport from 8000 (regular) to 35000 (bus-express). The fare is indicated inside the cabin on the windows or on the doors. Payment is made to the conductor, a ticket is issued. Cases of "obilechivaniya" tourists at inflated prices we have not met, payment is strictly at the cost of the ticket.
Routes: there are a lot of routes, and it's not easy to understand them. But there is an excellent official Tim Buy app, in which you can see the route of the desired bus with stops on the map; the position of buses on the map online; information about the cost, frequency and time of the route; find the nearest stops on the map; build a route, including transfers. The application has English, but you need to switch to it in the menu. What is good, the application works offline, for this you only need to first view the maps in the presence of the internet so that they are cached. Offline, only the position of the buses on the map will not be available, all other functions work. Note that some buses take different routes in different directions (round trip) and there is a daparter/Return toggle button in the route information on the map for this.
You can also buy to buy a paper map of routes for 5000 VND, or use the information on the links:
Attention! You should not rely on building routes on public transport on Google Maps, because there are too many errors.
