Comparison of all ways: quick choice
To quickly get oriented, here is a comparison table with current prices.
| Way | Travel Time | Approximate price (one way) | Main Pros | Main Cons |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plane | ~1.5 h + travel to/from airports | from 1,200,000 VND (45.63 USD) | Very fast, maximum comfort | The most expensive option, airport logistics |
| Train (night compartment) | ~16-18 hours | from 1,300,000 VND (49.43 USD) | Reliable, saves a hotel night, scenic views | Very long, needs to be booked in advance |
| Bus (night sleeper) | ~15-17 hours | from 400,000 VND (15.21 USD) | Cheapest, night trip saves a day | Least comfort, bumpy on roads |
Our opinion: If time is valuable — your option is the plane. If you want to save money but still have the opportunity to lie down and sleep — choose the night train in a Soft Sleeper compartment. If the budget is limited and you are ready for Spartan conditions — your path lies through the night sleeper bus.
Plane from Da Nang to Hanoi ✈
This is the fastest way to reach the capital. Several flights a day from Da Nang Airport (DAD) to Noi Bai Airport (HAN) are operated by Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, and Bamboo Airways. You will spend about 1 hour 20 minutes in the air.
Practical details: from departure to arrival
Lifehack from our experience: Keep an eye on Vietjet sales. There are days when the price for Da Nang-Hanoi flights drops to 600-800 thousand dong. To not miss it, you can install the airline's app or subscribe to notifications in aggregators like Aviasales. Sometimes such a ticket turns out to be even more profitable than a train!

How to get to Da Nang Airport
The airport is within the city, which greatly simplifies the task.
- Taxi (Grab, Mai Linh, Vinasun): The most convenient. A trip from the My Khe beach area will cost 70,000–100,000 VND (2.66 - 3.8 USD) in 15-20 minutes.
- City bus: The most economical. Buses No.06 and No.10 go to the airport. Fare only 8,000 VND. A great option if you have little luggage.
- Pre-ordered transfer: Convenient for an early departure or a large group. Can be ordered through the hotel or via Kiwitaxi.
-
How to leave Noi Bai Airport for Hanoi center
The airport is 45 km from the center (airport on the map).
- Taxi (Grab, Mai Linh): Optimal. A trip to the tourist area near Hoan Kiem Lake will cost 250,000 - 350,000 VND (9.51 - 13.31 USD). Travel time 40-60 minutes.
- Express bus №86: The best budget option for 45,000 VND. Goes directly from the terminals to Hoan Kiem Lake in the city center. Travel time — about 90 minutes.
- City bus №17: The cheapest — 15,000 VND. Goes to Long Bien station, from where you can walk to the tourist area or take a short taxi.
Our verdict: Flying is the undisputed leader in speed and comfort. This is our choice when we want to get to Hanoi quickly, for example, to catch a connecting international flight or simply not waste an extra day on the road.
Train from Da Nang to Hanoi 🚆
Train travel on the Da Nang-Hanoi route is an opportunity to leisurely travel half the country from south to north. The night train is especially good: you board in the evening after a day at the beach, go to sleep, and by lunchtime you are already in the capital, just in time for hotel check-in. Travel time — from 16 to 18 hours.
All about trains: from classes to buying tickets
-
Car classes: what to choose for a long journey north
- Soft Sleeper (4-berth compartment): The best choice for an overnight journey. There is air conditioning, power outlets, you can lie down at full length. Price Da Nang-Hanoi — from 1,300,000 to 1,800,000 VND.
- Hard Sleeper (6-berth compartment): 20-30% cheaper. Berths in three tiers, the top one is very low. Suitable for budget travelers.
- Soft Seat / Hard Seat: We do not recommend for 17 hours on the road. This is an option as a last resort if no other tickets are left.
-
Where to buy tickets and not make a mistake
- 12go.asia — the best website for tourists. Has Russian language, electronic tickets, detailed description of classes. Russian cards do not work, a foreign card is needed.
- Official Vietnam Railways website (dsvn.vn) — cheaper, but the interface is complicated, Russian cards don't work, and not even all foreign ones work. However, this has the most complete schedule.
- Ticket office at Da Nang Station: The cheapest way. The station is located in the center on Hai Phong street (station on the map). Buy at least 1-2 days before the trip.
- Travel agencies in Da Nang: Convenient if you don't want to go to the station. The markup is usually small, but clarify the car class.
Important from our experience: Tickets for the Da Nang-Hanoi train, especially for sleeping berths on Friday and Sunday, sell out very quickly. Don't put off the purchase until the last moment. If you plan to travel on weekends, buy tickets 3-4 days in advance.
-
Stations: departure and arrival
In Da Nang: All trains to the north depart from the main railway station. You can get there by Grab taxi from the tourist area (about 80,000 VND) or by bus No.05.
In Hanoi: Trains arrive at the main station Ga Ha Noi (120 Le Duan), which is located in the center (station on the map). From here to the tourist area near Hoan Kiem Lake you can walk for 25-30 minutes or take a taxi for 50,000 VND.
Our verdict: The night train in Soft Sleeper is an excellent alternative to flying for those who are not in a hurry and want to save on one hotel night. You don't spend daytime on the road, and in the morning you are already in the capital. Choose the daytime train only if you are a railway fan and are ready for a long sitting.
Bus from Da Nang to Hanoi 🚌
The most budget-friendly way to get to the capital. Many companies offer night sleeper buses (Sleeper Bus) and more comfortable VIP-bus with capsules like in a capsule hotel on this route. You leave Da Nang in the evening, sleep on the bus, and arrive in Hanoi in the morning or in the first half of the day. Travel time — 15-17 hours.
Practice: ticket purchase and logistics
Our advice: If possible, choose "VIP Sleeper" class buses with separate cabins. In a regular sleeper bus, the berths are arranged in three rows and very close to each other, which can be uncomfortable. In VIP variants, there is more personal space, individual curtains or doors, and sometimes even an onboard toilet.
-
Main carriers and prices
Flights are operated by companies The Sinh Tourist, Hoang Long, Hanh Cafe. The price starts from 400,000 VND for a regular sleeper bus. VIP options can cost from 500,000 and up to 1,000,000 VND.

Where to buy tickets in Da Nang
- 12go.asia — a convenient online aggregator with reviews. You can immediately see the bus type and carrier rating.
- Da Nang Central Bus Station: (on the map). Here the prices are the lowest, but you need to come to the station and visit several ticket offices.
- Travel agencies in Da Nang's tourist area (near My Khe beach): The most convenient option. Many offer a free transfer from the office to the bus station. Clarify this point when buying!

Where buses depart from and arrive
In Da Nang: Almost all intercity buses, including flights to Hanoi, depart from the Central Bus Station. You can get there by Grab taxi (from 100,000 VND) or by city bus No.16.
In Hanoi: Most buses arrive at the Giap Bat bus station (southern station). From here to the center you can take a taxi (about 150,000 VND) or a city bus. But many tourist buses make their final stop closer to the center in the tourist area near their offices — clarify the arrival location when purchasing.
Our verdict: The night sleeper bus is the choice for the most budget-conscious travelers and those not afraid of a long and not very comfortable road. It's real money savings, but be prepared that you are unlikely to get a full night's sleep. Take warm clothes, earplugs, and a sleep mask with you.
Final recommendations: what to choose for a trip to Hanoi?
Based on our experience, here's how we would choose:
- "I have a short trip of up to two weeks": Only the plane. Time on a short trip is the most valuable thing.
- "I want to save money, but also sleep on the road": Your option is the night train in a Soft Sleeper compartment. A compromise between price and comfort.
- "Budget is limited, but I have time": Then your path is the night VIP Sleeper Bus. Maximum savings, minimum comfort.
- "I am traveling with children": Definitely the plane or night train in a compartment. A bus with children for such a distance is a real challenge.
Regardless of your choice, book tickets in advance, especially if your trip falls on weekends or holidays.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
-
Which way is the cheapest from Da Nang to Hanoi?
The cheapest is the night sleeper bus (Sleeper Bus). Prices start from 400,000 VND (15.21 USD). That's 3 times cheaper than the most budget flight.
-
Can I buy a train ticket on the day of departure from Da Nang?
There is a chance, but it's small, especially for sleeping berths (Soft/Hard Sleeper). Most often, on the day of departure, only seated places (Hard Seat) remain for sale. We strongly recommend buying tickets at least 2-3 days in advance, and preferably a week, if the trip is planned for the weekend.
-
What is better: a night train or a night bus?
From a comfort standpoint — definitely the night train. In a compartment, you can lie down at full length, there is a toilet in the car, less shaking. The bus is cheaper, but the berths are short, the road is bumpy, and it can be very uncomfortable for tall people. If the price difference is not critical, choose the train.
-
How much time should I allow for travel to Da Nang Airport?
Since the airport is within the city, the journey from the tourist area (My Khe beach) will take 15-25 minutes by taxi. We recommend leaving the hotel 2-2.5 hours before departure for a domestic flight. This time is enough for travel, check-in, and passing through control.
