Saltpeter Rocks is one of the picturesque places on the old terrains of Mount Zheleznaya in Zheleznovodsk, which can be visited if you like long walks. The fact is that to the Saltpeter Rocks, as well as to the Caves of primitive man and Saltpeter spring, you will have to walk quite far from the resort park along the almost abandoned old terrencures (see below for details on how to get there). The route is simple and even the elderly can do it, but to climb the rocks themselves, you will have to climb up a little. If you overcome this path, from the observation deck at the top you will have a view of the highest mountains of the Caucasian Mineral Waters – Mashuk and Beshtau, as well as the neighboring Railway and Razvalka. And there is also a vertical rock on which climbers like to train. And do not forget to take a look here at the Cave of primitive man and the Saltpeter spring, because they are very close.

🚶 How to get there
Saltpeter Rocks are located about 4.5 kilometers from the center of the tourist area (Saltpeter rocks on the map). The health trail terrencourt No. 2 and No. 3 leads here, bypassing Zheleznaya Mountain, there are signs along the way, but it's not easy to figure them out. Therefore, it is best to arm yourself with a navigator or download offline map applications to your smartphone, such as Organic Maps, Guru Maps, OSM, etc., and follow the navigator. Keep in mind that you will have to climb up a little directly to the top of the rocks. It's not difficult and no equipment is required, but still healthy caution does not hurt. And yet, there are two main routes on how to climb the rocks: the difficult ones past the Cave of primitive man (we do not recommend it), and the simpler one from the fork to the Cave from the main asphalt path of terrencourt No. 3 (we recommend it).
To shorten the walking part of the route, you can take a car from the non-tourist part of the city along the old asphalt road to the cafe "Forester's Hut", leave the car there and then follow the trails on foot. In this case, you will have to walk only one and a half kilometers to the rocks instead of four.
