Mount Mashuk rises near the city to a height of about 470 meters, and its peak is located at an altitude of 993 meters above sea level. There are several hiking trails, a car road and a cable car leading up.
This is one of the iconic places in the city, where all vacationers and tourists try to get. At the top there is a famous group of wooden signs showing the direction (conditionally, of course) and distances to different cities of Russia, abroad, as well as to important places and attractions. At the top there is an observation deck and a cafe, a television Center. From the observation decks there is a wonderful view of the city, neighboring resorts and surrounding mountains, and in good weather you can even see Elbrus. In the souvenir shop in the building of the cable car station you can rent an audio guide for 50 rubles with a sightseeing tour of the top. The tour tells about the sights of the city and interesting places, the view of which opens from the observation deck.
But the most interesting thing for most vacationers is, of course, climbing the mountain on the Pyatigorsk cable car, the top station of which is located on the very top. But some tourists prefer an easy ascent by cable car to an independent hike up the mountain. It is not difficult, it can pass along trails or an asphalt road.

🚶 How to get there
Mashuk Mountain is located near the tourist area of Pyatigorsk (Mashuk peak on the map. Several hiking trails lead up, which begin near the "failure" (the steepest and most untrodden path), near Akademika Pavlova Street, and from places of Lermontov's duel (Samya is simple and convenient), but you will have to overcome almost 400 meters up, which will take 1-2 hours. The trails are good and anyone can overcome them, but it will take a lot of effort and a couple of hours in one direction. Do not forget to bring water.
Also, the road leads up to bypass the mountain (from the north), but you can not climb it by car, it is closed for personal transport. It is much more interesting to climb the Pyatigorsk cable car. The cable car station is located at the junction of Pastukhov Street and Gagarin Boulevard (cable car station on the map). Open Sunday to Thursday from 10:00 to 19:00, and Friday and Saturday from 10:00 to 20:00. In bad weather, the cable car does not work.
