In addition to balneological treatment, Pyatigorsk improves health and physical condition with the help of therapeutic mud of Lake Tambukan, which in its properties are not inferior to the mud of the world-famous Dead Sea. How to get there

Pyatigorsk is located 200 kilometers from the capital of the region, Stavropol, and 25 kilometers from the transport hub of Mineralnye Vody (Pyatigorsk on the map), where the nearest airport and major railway station are located. It is through the Mineralnye Vody airport that it is best to get to the resort, and from there take a taxi or suburban buses with a transfer. By train you can get directly to the railway station in the center of Pyatigorsk, or go to the railway station Mineralnye Vody, and from there transfer to the train, taxi, or bus.

How to get to Pyatigorsk

Flights of suburban buses / minibuses connect the city with Mineralnye Vody, Essentuki, Kislovodsk, Zheleznovodsk and other cities of the Stavropol Territory. They are sent irregularly, the schedule is not always respected. Therefore, before using it, check the information with local residents or already at the place of dispatch.

Also, Pyatigorsk can be reached from KMV resorts by electric trains, including high-speed electric trains "Lastochka". This is an excellent option for moving between the neighboring resorts of the Caucasian mineral waters: Pyatigorsk, Mineralnye Vody, Kislovodsk, as well as to get from the railway station Minvod or the airport (with a transfer).

Starting in the fall of 2019, between Minvody and Kislovodsk, in addition to the usual trains, high-speed trains "Lastochka" also run four times a day, which make a stop in Pyatigorsk. The journey time on The Swallow is almost twice as fast - only 30 minutes. The cost of travel on the "Lastochka" along the entire route - from 228 rubles.

Transport, how to move around the city

Pyatigorsk is a big city, and to move around it you will almost certainly need transport. The city has a developed public transport system of buses and trams, you can find bicycle rental, or use an inexpensive taxi through Yandex, Uber, etc. (from 50 rubles a trip). The tourist area is compact, and no transport is needed for walking around it, everything can be bypassed on foot.

  • Buses and trams

    Buses and trams can be quite comfortable and inexpensive to move around the city. Even at the height of the season (in summer), we have never seen crowded transport here. Travel costs 19-21 rubles, payment to the conductor. There are many routes, and the easiest way to plan a trip is to use the help of local residents or the Route Planner on the Yandex map. And here are the most useful routes for tourists:

    • Bus number 1. The only route that passes through the entire resort area up to Lake failure. It can be reached from the resort area to the railway station, shops and shopping centers.
    • Trams No. 1, 3, 5. from the resort area to the railway station and the area with shops and shopping centers.
  • Bike rental

    There are several bike rentals in the city. You can find them while walking in the resort area, usually it's just a row of bicycles on the street with a person who looks after them and collects money. There is a permanent rental near the Pirogov baths building. You can bargain with distributors, but in general the order of prices is as follows:

    • 1 hour 300 rubles;
    • day (12 hours) - 700;
    • day (24 hours) 1000;
    • children's bike-100 rubles an hour.;

Attractions, what to see

There are many attractions in Pyatigorsk, and in our opinion this is the most saturated city with sights and interesting places among the resorts of the CMS. Although objectively it can not be said that this is the center of excursion tourism, since most of the attractions here are just iconic places associated with the short history of the resort, because it was formed only at the beginning of the XIX century. Nevertheless, even without resorting to excursions, places for self-visiting in the city and the surrounding area will be enough for at least a week of rest.

Special iconic places to visit in Pyatigorsk are attractions associated with the memory of the poet M. Y. Lermontov. It was here that he spent the last months of his life, and was shot dead in a duel at the age of 26. No less interesting will be the natural attractions of the resort and the surrounding area. Be sure to climb Mount Mashuk (on foot or by Cable Car), visit Lake Proval, pump rooms of natural mineral water, swim in radon baths. And we would advise the most active tourists to climb Beshtau Mountain, which can be done in just one day without special equipment and training.

When you get acquainted with all the local sights of Pyatigorsk, you can proceed to excursions, of which there are a lot offered here. You can go on a group excursion tour both to the sights of the neighboring resorts of the CMS, and to neighboring regions (Dombay, Arkhyz, Elbrus, Grozny, the Black Sea) and even countries (Georgia). The list of options is huge, you can always get full information on the spot from distributors who offer their services and prices with prices near the Flower Garden Park, on Kirov Avenue near the Dedy fountain and in many other places. Prices for one-day tours start from 400 rubles per person, but when buying, be sure to specify what is included in the price, as often the entrance fee is not included, which may be even higher than the cost of the tour. As for the place of purchase, this is not a matter of principle: prices are almost the same everywhere, the programs are standard.

Entertainment especially for tourists in Pyatigorsk is not much. You can climb the cable car to mount Mashuk, visit one of the cinemas, play bowling "Galaxy". With children, you can go to the Kirov amusement park, the Insect Museum, visit the puppet theater, and that's it. Even the water park in the village of Inozemtsevo in 2019 is closed. Evening entertainment is also a little: walks in the Park Flower Garden and the surrounding area, or dinner in a restaurant or cafe.
