What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting
There is no museum in Yalta with the familiar name of the Museum of Local Lore, and you can get acquainted with the history and culture of the city in the Yalta Historical and Literary Museum. This is the main city museum, consists of two buildings at different addresses, in which several permanent expositions are located and temporary exhibitions are held.:
- The building on Ekaterininskaya street, 8a - the exposition "Yalta XIX century" and the exhibition "Architect Krasnov".
- The building on Pushkinskaya Street, 5 – expositions "West-East: crossroads of cultures" and "Yalta – pages of history".
The permanent exposition of the Yalta XIX Century branch at 8a Ekaterininskaya Street is located in a historic building - the former mansion of Baron A. G. Jomini, built in 1886. Later, the building was sold to the merchant E.F. Lishchinskaya, and therefore the building is now known as the architectural monument "Leshchinskaya Mansion", and also the Lesya Ukrainka Museum was located here, which is no longer working. This exhibition tells about the history of the city in the XIX-XX centuries. This is the time of Yalta's formation as a resort and the origin of winemaking here, and therefore, in our opinion, of all the museum's exhibitions, this one should appeal most to tourists and vacationers. In addition to the traditional archaeological finds and ethnographic exhibits in the collection, you will see such funny and close to the heart of any Crimean and resident of the USSR items as locally produced Soviet canned food, bottles of Yalta wine, reference books on spa treatment, and old paper guides to the Crimea. In general, the museum will be of interest to every tourist, so we recommend visiting it if possible, especially since it is located very close to the center of the resort and the embankment.
