The Golitsyn Trail

Golitsyn Trail, Crimea
The Golitsyn Trail

The Golitsyn trail, also known as the Falcon trail, in our opinion, is the most interesting attraction of the village. This is a mountain hiking trail near the village, cut down on the slopes of Mount Koba-Kaya (Mount Eagle) in 1912 on the occasion of the arrival of Tsar Nicholas II on the orders of Prince Golitsyn.

Today, anyone can walk along the trail, the cost is 100 rubles. The entire route is 5.47 kilometers and passes through the territory of the Novy Svet nature reserve. It will take from 2 to 4 hours to overcome it, depending on your physical form. During the walk there are wonderful views of the Bay and the village, including from the observation decks. Royal Beach

Tsar's Beach, Novy Svet
Royal Beach

This is one of the most beautiful beaches in Crimea. It is located on the territory of a protected area, and theoretically access to it is prohibited, but in fact there are a lot of people there in good weather. Because of this, the beach is more beautiful than suitable for swimming and relaxing. There is no infrastructure on it, everything is virgin and natural, but the dirt and garbage after the vacationers are not always cleaned.

Champagne and wine factory "Novy Svet"

Novy Svet
Novy Svet Plant

For the sake of visiting the Novy Svet plant, people come to the village for an excursion even from the farthest corners of the Crimea. This is not surprising, because the wines and champagnes of this plant are unique and among the highest quality.

The founder of the plant in 1878 was Prince Golitsyn. He set out to create a drink that is not inferior to the best French samples. About how he managed it, you can find out by visiting the plant. To do this, anyone can participate in special educational and sightseeing tours directly to the production. During the tours, the history of the plant is told, the stages of production are shown, the products are tasted. Golitsyn House Museum and tasting rooms

Novy Svet
House Museum

This is an architectural landmark of the village. From 1978 to 1915, count Golitsyn lived in the house (according to other sources, he did not live in the house, but arranged a wine museum here during his lifetime). Today, in the basement of the museum there is a tasting room, where any tourist can get there. For this purpose, special group tours are organized in the museum.

Mount Falcon and the source of St. Anastasia

Novy Svet
Sokol Mountain

Mount Sokol (Kush Kaya) is said to be the oldest coral reef in Europe. Anyway, this is one of the highest points in the area, its height is 474 meters. There are many climbing routes of varying difficulty to the top, and these routes are one of the most interesting activities during a holiday in the village. You can climb either simply on foot along the simplest route, or on a complex one using equipment. The walking route to the very top takes 3-4 hours, and the same time will be needed for the descent, so a full day should be allocated for all visits to the mountain. You can climb yourself if you have experience of such routes, but it is better to find an experienced guide with you. Be sure to use comfortable hiking shoes, stock up on water.

On the way to the top, approximately in the middle there is another attraction – the source (spring) of St. Anastasia (Nastasinsky) with the purest drinking water.

🕐 Working hours: around the clock, for safety reasons, Strictly during the day, in dry weather.

💵 Entrance fee / tickets price: free.

🚶 How to get there: the mountain is near the village (Sokol mountain on the mapseveral trails of varying difficulty lead to the top. The starting points of the trails are marked on our map of the Noviy Svet. There are very few pointers, so it makes sense to stock up on a compass, map or navigator.

The mountain and the Sentry route are both

View from the Karaul-Oba trail
View from the trail Karaul-Oba Cape Kapchik

The Karaul-Oba mountain range is located to the west of the village, towards the beach of Veselovskaya Bay. This is the territory of the Novy Svet nature reserve, through which a popular hiking route passes along the mountain. On the route you will see a juniper Grove, magnificent mountain and seascapes. On the route you will meet another attraction-the staircase of the Tauri carved into the rocks, whose age is more than 2500 years. This staircase will take you to the "Peak Space" from where you can see almost the entire coast from Yalta to Sudak. Of course, you will visit the very top of Karaul-Oba, whose height is 341 meters. The tourist trail ends on the shore of Veselovskaya Bay, where you can see another attraction-the ruins of kutlak fortress (aka Asandra fortress), built in the 1st century BC.

To overcome the route of Karaul-Oba, you should wear comfortable hiking shoes, stock up on water. It is better to spend a full day on the route. Learn more about walking route and mount Karaul-Oba here.

🕐 Working hours: during daytime.

💵 Entrance fee / tickets price: entrance to the territory of the Reserve – 100 rubles.

🚶 How to get there: the entrance to the route is at the entrance point to the Golitsyn trail (Mount Karaul-Oba on the map. Sometimes these routes are combined, passing them one after another. You can also start hiking in Veseloe village and finish it in a Noviy Svet.

Assandra fortress (kutlak fortress)

Assandra Fortress, Crimea
This is all that can be seen on the fortress

The Fortress of Assandra or Kutlak is located on the outskirts of the beach in the village of Veseloye, and it is difficult to attribute it to the sights for which it is worth going here to see it. Unfortunately, this attraction is abandoned, not protected in any way and is gradually destroyed by a few tourists and locals. Today you can see only collapsed walls, their contours only vaguely reminiscent of a fortress. Nevertheless, if you find yourself on the beach of Veselovskaya Bay or will make a walking route from the Noviy Svet to the village of Veseloe along the path through the top of Karaul-Oba, it's worth a look here.

The Fortress dates from the first century BC, and did not last long, only until the beginning of the first century AD. Its ruins were discovered only in 1982. It is assumed that the fortress belonged to the Bosporus Kingdom.

🕐 Working hours: around the clock.

💵 Entrance fee / tickets price: free.

🚶 How to get there: the fortress is located on a hill in the eastern part of the beach of Veselovskaya Bay (fortress on the map. The climb to the top is easy to overcome on foot, but you can go upstairs by car.

Cave monastery

On the Internet you can find references to a certain cave monastery by Sudak in the Noviy Svet. Unfortunately, we were never able to find any cave monastery other than the one that used to be on the site of Golitsyn's grotto (Chaliapin) on the Golitsyn trail. From the locals it was possible to learn only about a certain cave on Mount Sokol, in which the monks used to live, but it has long collapsed. Therefore, all references to the existence of a certain monastery in the mountains on the road between Sudak and the Noviy Svet are considered an unverified fact or another tourist fake.
