In the gorge of the Khashupse River there are several canyons, "cut" over millions of years by the current of the river in the thickness of the rocks. The Small Hashupse Canyon is one of the equipped points where you can look at this fascinating natural landmark. However, strictly speaking, the Small Canyon is not located on the Hashupse River itself, but on one of its tributaries, the Sandripsh River.
The Small Hashupsinsky Canyon is really small, its length is only a couple of hundred meters. However, this does not detract from the beauties that you can see here. In addition to the most natural attractions in this place there is a cafe Christopher and a trout farm, where you can catch fish yourself so that you can have it cooked in a cafe.
Please note that the Small Hashupse Canyon is often confused by guidebooks and tourists with another Hashupse Canyon, called the Big One. The Grand Hashupse Canyon is located on the road earlier than the Small One, and that's where tourists go for surfing and walking along its bottom. There is no boarding on the small canyon, here you can only enjoy the views and walk along the paths through the forest, and nothing more.

For the passage to the canyon through the cafe Khristofor you need to pay 100 rubles. For cafe visitors, a walk to the canyon is free.
🚶 How to get there
The small Hashupse Canyon is located 30 kilometers from Gagra and 12 kilometers from Tsandripsha (Small Hashupse Canyon on the map). You can get here with jeep tours, which are sold from distributors on the streets of resorts in Abkhazia, but when buying, please specify which canyon you will be taken to, since there is an option to visit another Grand Canyon.
Also, it will not be difficult to get to the Small Canyon on your own, but only by your own transport, since public transport does not go here. The road here is bad, but you can drive in any car in good weather, except, perhaps, the most understated cars. You need to go from Gagra along the Sukhumi Highway main road, then turn onto the road to the village of Khashupse, and then a bad road begins: first broken asphalt, and then just a rocky primer. Navigators "know" this road well, so just follow the navigator to the point that is indicated on our map and you will get to the right place.
You will eventually get to the parking lot of the cafe Christopher. You can park your car here (it was free during our trip), pay for passage through the cafe and then walk 700 meters or 15 minutes down the path to the canyon.
