Tents and campsites in Abkhazia - where the "savages" will stay

Article and Section Navigation

Abkhazia still has good opportunities for a wild holiday with a tent. There are also paid equipped campsites on the shore, and good quiet places where you can come with your tent and set up your own small camp.

Here is a selection of places where we stayed in person or about which we just know. And if you have something to add to this list, share your coordinates and contacts in the comments at the end of the article or in our chat on Abkhazia, we will add everything to the general list:

Wild camping in Ldzaa

On the way from Ldzaa (Pitsunda) to Agaraki beach or the village of Amzhikukhua, it is also the Monastic Gorge, there are many places where you can stay with a tent on the shore, that's where it is on the map. There is no infrastructure here, there is no fresh water, take everything with you. It's also bad that a lot of vacationers from Pitsunda come here during the day, cars are constantly driving, so there will be no peace of mind. But here the pebble beach turns into a sandy one when moving towards Agaraki, so you can stay where the beach suits you best, and there are no more such places in Abkhazia.

Wild camping near Aylaga-Abyku Temple

This is a convenient place to set up your tent next to the historical landmark Aylaga-Abyku temple, that's where on the map. But don't worry: few tourists know and visit this temple, so it's quiet and peaceful here.

You can get here by car, but the road is not always indicated correctly to the navigator, they can lead the VAZ to a closed gate, so read the link above how to get here. And yet, it's hard to get here after the rains. But you can stay under the trees right by the beach. There is not a lot of space, but several tents can be easily placed. There is no fresh water, take everything with you. The beach here is pebbly and rocky, but you can swim.

A playground next to a free hot spring

This is the part of Abkhazia far from the border beyond Sukhum towards Ochamchira, that's where on the map. There is a free hot spring-geyser, a river flows nearby (you will have fresh water). But you will have to drive 5-10 minutes to the beach by car to Ochamchira.

An abandoned recreation center in Kyndig

Apparently, this recreation center Fir was built back in the USSR, now abandoned. This is where on the map. Abandoned buildings and flat areas for the installation of tents remained on the territory. You can drive right into the territory by car and set up camp. The beach is very close from here, you just need to take a couple of subways down one of the paths or stairs. For food and water, you can drive or even walk to the center of the village of Kyndig, and you can go from here to the paid hot springs of Kyndig.

Wild Harbor Camping

It is located in the village of Akhaladze (Pitsunda) at the exit to the beach along one of the main streets. That's where it is located on the map and reviews. We didn't rest here, but we studied the possibility and in principle liked everything. But you need to understand that this is not a quiet, secluded place, cafes with music can work nearby. The price is 1000 rubles for the installation of a tent, includes Parking, toilet and shower.

A tent stop in the Ricin National Park.park

Officially, in Ricinsky Nature Reserve tents can only be installed in designated areas, and we tried to find out through the administration exactly where these designated areas are, but we didn't really get any information. We set up a tent at the end of the road to Lake Mzy, also saw tents in the area of the Auadhara recreation center.

Achandar Camping

We haven't been here, but according to reviews it's a very good place. It is located in a quiet place on the beach and at the same time next to the main road, so you don't have to drag yourself off-road here. That's where it is on the map and reviews

Camping and recreation center Shlypra

It's an isolated and secluded place, that's where on the map. We haven't been here yet, but tourists in the reviews say that although there are enough vacationers in the season, everyone is in the topic and they behave quietly. You can't get here by car, they bring you by boat.

Camping in Pitsunda

It is located next to the Cypress Alley, where there is a free passage to the beach, that's where on the map and reviews. It is equipped in a simple way: toilet, shower without hot water (possibly heated by the sun), there is electricity. In fact, it is located on the border or even partially on the territory of the Pitsunda Nature Reserve in a pine forest 5 minutes walk from the beach, and we have seen tents in this pine forest even near the shore, but it seems to be forbidden.

Finally, we remind you! Be responsible tourists, follow the scripture and unwritten rules of rest:

  • Don't leave any garbage behind. Put it in garbage bags and take it to the nearest trash can or container.
  • Do not spoil nature, do not cut down trees and bushes for your camp.
  • Do not disturb your neighbors with loud music, songs, or indecent behavior.
  • Do not arrange an indecent rest, do not sunbathe and do not swim naked in front of strangers.
