How to get to Vung Tau (Vietnam), transportation

There is no airport near Vung Tau, so it is usually accessed by land or water from the nearest international airport in Ho Chi Minh City.

From Ho Chi Minh City airport itself in Vung Tau you can get a taxi for about $ 100 (depending on how you bargain) for a car. From the domestic terminal (it can be reached on foot from the international one) minibuses depart for 120,000 VND.

If you prefer complete freedom of movement, you can rent a car at Ho Chi Minh City Airport and take it to Vung Tau. Since 2014, in Vietnam, on completely legal grounds, you can drive a rented vehicle with an international driver's license (IDP) that meets the requirements of the Vienna Convention on road traffic (Read more about motorcycle and car rental in Vietnam). These are issued in the Russian Federation, and earlier it was necessary to obtain temporary local rights, and no others in the country were recognized. Now you can safely drive on a driver's license issued in Russia. Just do not forget that the IDI acts only in conjunction with national rights, so you need to take both types of rights to Vietnam at once. You can get an IDP in the traffic police. Taking exams for obtaining an IDP is not required.

By bus

From Ho Chi Minh City Vung Tau can be reached by tourist or regular intercity buses. For tourists, obviously, more simple and convenient are tourist buses, tickets for which can be purchased at travel agencies on the street of the city. There are also many regular and branded buses that you can take directly at the bus station. Regular buses depart from Mien Dong Coach Station in Ho Chi Minh City. Departure during the day approximately every 15 minutes, tickets do not need to be purchased in advance. Speedboat from Ho Chi Minh City

Attention! After a one-year operation ban caused by a fire on one of the ships, the speedboats have been launched again since the beginning of 2015.

A hydrofoil speedboat, also called Hydrofoil , is a very popular way for tourists to get to Vung Tau. But don't overestimate your strength: on a high-speed ship is not weakly motion sickness, so it is better to take something for motion sickness before the trip.

Boats depart from Ho Chi Minh City from approximately 6:30 to 16:45 on an indicative schedule: 6:30 , 7:00, 7:30 , 9:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 15:00, 15:30 and 16:45. From Vung Tau, the departure time is the same. Ticket price 250 000 VND adult, 100 000-children. There are other carriers, the price is the same, but the schedule is slightly different. Travel time is just over an hour. It is recommended to purchase tickets in advance, especially for weekends. If you plan to visit Vung Tau for one day and return the same day, it is highly recommended to buy tickets back in Ho Chi Minh City rather than on arrival in Vung Tau.

Transport, how to move around Vung Tau

There is no public transport in Vung Tau. You can move around the city by taxi, rented transport or on foot.

Taxis in Vung Tau are considered quite expensive by Vietnamese standards, especially given that the city is small and the distance trips are very short.

An excellent option for moving around the city will be hiking. The city is quite compact.
