Description of Ta Phin Cave and is it worth visiting
In Ta Phin village, about 1 kilometer north from its center, there are mountains, and one of them has a cave. This is the only known cave in the Sapa area that is equipped and accessible for tourist visits.
It's quite extensive and long, with many branches. Tourists are allowed to go no deeper than 300 meters; beyond that it's dangerous or you could get lost. There's nothing special in it except for whimsical stalactites, stalagmites, and bats, so you definitely shouldn't make it a must-see on your Sapa itinerary. But if you find yourself in Ta Phin village, you can drop by here, spending no more than half an hour.
You can explore Ta Phin Cave on your own, but it's better to do it with a guide from among the local kids or women in traditional outfits who usually hang around the village or near the cave entrance, ready to take you to the cave or inside it, if only you buy something from their souvenirs or for a symbolic fee of 20,000 VND. The cave has lighting installed, which is turned on only for a fee of 20,000 VND, i.e., this is effectively the entrance fee to the cave, and it goes to the village community. Theoretically, you can go without lighting with your own flashlight for free, but it's still better to pay for the lighting and entrance, as the villagers have spent effort and money to set up the amenities.
By the way, we recommend taking a headlamp in any case, as the lighting is only partial, and you'll still need it to illuminate the branches and corners in the cave. If you hire a guide, they will give you a flashlight.
🕐 Opening Hours
During daylight hours.
💵 Entrance Fee / Ticket Prices
Lighting activation and cave entrance 20,000 VND per person (0.76 USD, see all about Vietnamese money and exchange rates), guide optional for another 20,000 or as agreed. You also need to pay 50,000 VND for entry to Ta Phin village.
🚶 How to Get There
