Description and is it worth a visit

Ho Chi Minh City Museum

Ho Chi Minh City Museum and Gia Long Palace (Museum of Ho Chi Minh City or Gia Long Palace) is a very interesting and definitely worth visiting place, besides it is also conveniently located almost in the city center within walking distance from the tourist area. The large two-storey building, built at the end of the XIX century in the French colonial style, is in itself a historical monument. On its facade, you can even see well-preserved carved architectural elements. The construction of the palace began in 1885 and was completed in 1890. The palace was designed by the French architect Alfred Foulhu to house the Museum of Commercial Trade, which displays the goods of South Vietnam. However, soon this building became the residence of the governor.

The museum is large and has a rich collection of various exhibits telling about the history, development, culture and traditions of Vietnam. The exhibitions are divided thematically from archaeological finds to household items, national clothes, musical instruments. Photos and documents tell about the formation and development of the city, the struggle for the independence of the country with military occupiers from the countries of France and the USA. A special pride of the museum is the hall with Vietnamese money, where specimens from the 10th century to the present are presented. Information about the exhibited exhibits can be obtained using QR codes, however, they are not everywhere.

On the ground floor there is a basement built as a shelter. There is a park around the museum, in which several pieces of military equipment and an old car are on display.

Museum of Ho Chi Minh City is one of the most popular places for photo shoots, especially among local youth. They specially come here in outfits, with a bunch of equipment and accessories, and take a bunch of photos on every corner. To be honest, it makes it a little difficult to get acquainted with the museum's exhibits, but there's nothing you can do about it, because Vietnamese love to take selfies to death.
