Perfume River Embankment in Hue

Article and Section Navigation

Description and Is It Worth Visiting

Hue Embankment is a great place for evening walks

The Hue Embankment, also called Nguyen Dinh Chieu Walking Street, is a well-maintained pedestrian zone that stretches for almost two kilometers along the picturesque Perfume River in the very heart of the city. This is a place where tourist routes and the daily life of local residents intersect: young couples stroll here, families exercise and spend time together. Unlike the noisy and bustling tourist center, the embankment offers a calmer but no less interesting alternative for evening relaxation.

Walking here is an opportunity to see Hue from a different side. On one side, there's a view of the majestic Imperial Citadel on the opposite bank, and on the other side, the modern arched Trang Tien Bridge, which is beautifully illuminated in the evenings. On the embankment itself, there are genre sculptures and comfortable benches where you can sit and watch the river flow. There's also a pier from which cruise boats depart for evening trips on the water.

The peculiarity of this place is that it combines several urban functions. It's not only a walking area but also a kind of artistic cluster. Two interesting museums are located here: the Le Ba Dang Art Museum, dedicated to the famous Vietnamese artist, and the Diem Phung Thi Museum, which displays the works of the world-renowned sculptor. Nearby, the Hue Exhibition Hall operates – a great place to buy quality local handmade souvenirs. And at the end of the route is the Ho Chi Minh Museum.

In the evening, the atmosphere on the embankment changes. It comes alive: street artists appear, vendors selling souvenirs, children's toys, and street food. Local residents come out for runs and exercise on the open areas. Cafes are open where you can drink coffee or freshly squeezed juice. If the evening hustle and bustle of the tourist center tires you, a walk along the embankment will be the perfect way to end the day in the calm but lively atmosphere of real Hue.
