Description and is it worth a visit
The Museum of the Vietnamese Army or the Vietnamese Museum of Military History in Hanoi (Vietnam Military History Museum) is the most important and largest such museum in Vietnam. Moreover, if we take the scale of the building itself and the territory, and not just the exhibition, then this is generally the largest museum in the country.
Previously, it was located in the city center near the Ba Dinh Square with the mausoleum and Lenin Square and within walking distance from the tourist area, but now it has moved to a new monumental building far from the center almost on the outskirts of the city. At the time of our visit, not everything was ready yet: landscaping works are being carried out on the territory for the street, and only the first floor works in the building itself. But the scope is already impressive.
The exposition, as the name implies, is dedicated to the army of Vietnam since prehistoric times, and ending with the modern period. The exhibition inside the building contains weapons, maps, objects, personal belongings that once belonged to Vietnamese soldiers. Many modern multimedia exhibits have appeared. In total, there are more than 160,000 exhibits in the museum's collection.
On the territory next to the building there is a street exhibition of large military equipment that participated in the Vietnam War with the United States. One section consists of equipment from the Vietnam wars, and there are a lot of Soviet weapons. The other section contains the equipment of the USA and France. Symbolically, the armament of the two armies is directed at each other.
Given the specifics of the museum, we will not say that it is necessary to visit it in Hanoi. But the fact that this is one of the brightest and most interesting museums in the whole of Vietnam and it is worth visiting at the first opportunity is 100%.
