Description and is it worth a visit
The surroundings of Dalat are rich in a variety of natural and cultural attractions, but one of the special places to visit are coffee farms or plantations. After all, Dalat is considered the coffee capital of Vietnam, so it's a must to visit at least one of the farms during a vacation or excursion here.
On some farms, ordinary coffee is grown, on others – premium coffee, known to many as luvak or moussak coffee, and here it is called Weasel or "ferret" coffee. Luvak is made with the help of moussaka animals (a kind of marten) or a kind of ferrets or laxies. In general, it does not matter which animals are used for this, but the important thing is that coffee beans pass through the animals' esophagus, are partially digested, and come out naturally. Thanks to this, the coffee bean reveals its taste and aroma, then it is processed in the usual way, and the luxury coffee grade is ready. So, in principle, we can say that this is "ferret coffee".
We visited one of such famous plantations called Me Linh Coffee Garden. It is located on the way to the Elephant Waterfall, so you can stop there. Visiting the farm is free. For an additional fee, you can book an excursion, which includes a route around the farm, accompanied by a guide's stories about the coffee production process, tasting, and even there are excursions with making coffee with your own hands. But it is not necessary to take an excursion, and you can walk the same route yourself: along the coffee trees along the path, visit the pavilion with animals, see the processing process in the showroom.
The farm has a cafe and a restaurant overlooking the plantation. In the cafe you can eat and drink coffee with a view of the coffee trees. In addition, you can try the varieties offered for sale, choose the one you like and buy ready-made packages or by weight. Farm workers will help you with the choice. In our experience, coffee costs more here than at the market or in stores. For example, 100 g of Arabica or robusta – from 50,000 VND(1.9 USD, see currency of Vietnam), luvak – from 480 000 VND (18.22 USD). Nevertheless, buying coffee here you get a guaranteed quality product. As in any tourist destination, there is a gift shop.
In general, you should definitely visit at least one such plantation in Dalat. And the purchase of local coffee can be included in the list of pleasant purchases for yourself and your loved ones.
