There are more than a hundred hotels of different categories on Cat Ba Island, there are no difficulties with accommodation even in high season. But still, in the summer months during school holidays, on big holidays and on weekly weekends, it is best to book accommodation in advance. The fact is that at this time a lot of local tourists and holidaymakers from Hanoi come to Cat Ba, all rooms are occupied, prices jump.

But in the low season from October to December, many hotels arrange a real attraction of generosity, making a discount of up to 50%. At this time, you can book a comfortable room with air conditioning, TV and your own bathroom from 250,000 VND per day (9.5 USD). We (the authors of the site) have not seen such low-season discounts anywhere else in Vietnam.

The rest of the time, for the simplest room with its own bathroom and air conditioning, you will have to pay from 400,000 VND (rate temporary unavailable USD) when booking in advance. But there are very few such budget options, literally only a few on the whole island.

In addition to traditional accommodation on land, you can stay here in exotic floating hotels. We are talking about cruise boats in the bays of Lanha or Halong, where you can stay in a separate cabin, or rent a boat entirely with the whole team. Of course, it is most interesting to live in such boats not near the shores of the island, but sailing along the bays of Halong and Lan Ha, and if you book it entirely, you will be able to determine the sailing route yourself.

Such accommodation options are available for booking through hotel search engines, and they are designated as Junk or Cruise there, they are very expensive. But there is another cheaper option: to buy an excursion-a boat cruise with overnight stays in Halong Bay and Lanha. Then you will be on the boat with other tourists, but in your cabin. Such excursions are sold in all street agencies on Cat Ba, and you can buy them even in Hanoi along with the transfer.

Areas on Cat Ba and where to stay

Cat Ba is not a small island, it stretches for 22 kilometers from north to south. But don't let these sizes scare you, because most of it is occupied by a national park, and the entire tourist infrastructure is concentrated in a small place in the south – the town of Catba-town. This is the only developed tourist destination, and it is very compact, and it is here that the main concentration of hotels is located. All the beaches of the island suitable for recreation and swimming are also located here (see details about Cat Ba beaches). Therefore, if you are looking for a place to stay for a traditional holiday and closer to the beaches, then there is no better place to find (Cat Ba town on the map).

• The center of Cat Ba Town

  

  In Cat Ba Town itself, the hotels are located so compactly that, by and large, there is no need to choose a place carefully. After all, wherever you choose a hotel, you will still find yourself within walking distance from the center, beaches and the promenade. But still there are some features:

  • If you settle in the very center next to Nabrezhezhnaya, this is where Nui Ngoc Street rests on the embankment (center on the map), that is, the probability of being near noisy nightclubs that will keep you awake at least until midnight.
  • If you are not ready to join the night party, but want to get a good night's sleep, then it makes sense to settle a little further from the center. In our opinion, the ideal place is the same promenade in the center, but a little further south and closer to the beaches.
  • Another very quiet area can be found if you go further into Cat Ba Town along Nui Ngoc Street, although in this case you will have to go a little further to the beaches.
  • Well, you can relax in peace and quiet if you stay at one of the hotels on the beaches of Cat Co 1, Cat Co 2 or Cat Co 3. Then you can get to the center of the hangout in 10-15 minutes on foot or in a few minutes by taxi, and you will get to the beach right when you leave the room.

  

  

  

  

• Other places to stay on Cat Ba

  In addition to Cat Ba Town, you can stay in other places on the island, but this will be a bit of a non-standard and not budget vacation:

  • If the budget allows, you can consider a vacation in one of the floating hotels. Of course, you shouldn't spend your entire vacation in them, but spending two or three days on a cruise boat in the middle of the beautiful islands of Halong Bay or Lan Ha will be an unforgettable experience. You can book such cruises through travel agencies on the spot, but the best cruise boats are booked in advance entirely. They are booked as well as regular hotels through hotel search and booking systems, or you can just book a cruise.
  • Another accommodation option is on small islands in the bay. You will be able to stay in a hotel or bungalow on secluded islets, where there will be no one but you and the same guests of these hotels.
  • If you want to plunge into the local village life, you can stay in the village of Xuan Dam. It has several guest houses and hotels at a very good price, and there is even a beach. True, the beach is very dirty, and most likely you will still have to go to the beaches of Cat Ba Town.
  • Well, if you want to relax in general in a quiet and almost secluded place, you can stay at this hotel Cat Ba Holiday Retreat or at the Woodstock Jungle Camp among the forests in the center of the island.
  • Finally, the most exotic option is to settle in the authentic village of Viet Hai, which can only be reached by boat, and then another 4 kilometers on foot or by cart.
