Description and is it worth visiting
Angurukaramulla Temple (also known as Bodhirajarama Maha Viharaya) is one of the main Buddhist shrines in Negombo. We consider visiting it not just interesting, but mandatory for any tourist. The main feature of the temple is the unique entrance to the main building, which represents the open mouth of a mythical beast (sinha-lion or dragon), which makes an unforgettable impression.
After recent updates and reconstruction, the interior has taken on new life: with bright colorful paintings about the life of Buddha, his statues surrounded by attendants. The reproduction of the entire cycle of human life through sculptures may seem interesting: from parents meeting and conception to death.
If you're lucky, you might meet a monk here who speaks Russian. He will guide you through the temple and tell you a little about the depicted scenes, and at the end of the tour will persistently ask for a small donation.
🕐 Opening hours
From 06:00 to 20:00.
💵 Entrance fee / ticket prices
