Description and Is It Worth Visiting

The Ayer Hangat Village hot springs complex on Langkawi was formed on the site of natural thermal springs originating in the depths of Gunung Raya mountain. Previously, entry was free, and you could freely walk around the area and soak your feet in the healing water. During the low season, when the complex had no visitors, you could even swim completely in the open pavilions. Only private cabins and cosmetic/medical treatments were paid. Now, entry is charged, even just to soak your feet.

The complex's territory includes several natural hot water ponds, pavilions with swimming pools, a jacuzzi, and private houses with bathtubs. Many are put off by the sight of the algae-covered ponds, but this is their natural state — they are not cleaned on purpose and are not intended for swimming. Paying the general entry fee gives you access to the pavilions and pools where you can soak your feet, and a reflexology path. Everything else is only available for an additional fee, and a rather high one at that.

There is also a restaurant and duty-free shop on site. You can see demonstrations of traditional crafts, elephant and snake dances, and massage and spa treatments are offered.

Is it worth visiting? If you've already explored the island's main attractions and want to relax, you could stop here for an hour or two. But making a special trip just for the springs, especially considering the paid entry and extra costs for treatments, probably isn't worth it. It's much more logical to combine a visit with a trip to the nearby Durian Waterfall or Galeria Perdana.
