Description and Is It Worth Visiting
Durian Perangin Waterfall is, in our opinion, the best place on Langkawi for relaxing by the water away from the beaches. Unlike the island's other waterfalls, it doesn't dry up even during the dry season, unlike, say, Temurun. Even the famous Seven Wells become much less full of water in the dry season, while you can swim at Durian and admire the cascading streams. The area is privately owned, well-maintained, and landscaped — with pavilions, bridges, steps, and lots of greenery, making it pleasant just to walk around.
The main cascade forms a pool at its base with refreshing water where you can swim. But be careful: the descent to it is via slippery steps, and there's not much space around — everything is on slopes and rocks. This place isn't for a quick look-see, but for relaxing: come to swim, sit in a pavilion, have a picnic. Bring your swimsuits, food, and drinks. If you forget to bring anything, there's a market and cafe at the entrance where you can buy everything. Mosquitoes are active in the evening, so repellent is a good idea if you plan to stay late.
Attention: there are monkeys in the forest around the waterfall. They can be persistent and are happy to snack on your supplies. Keep an eye on your belongings and food, don't leave bags unattended, and don't feed the animals — it will only attract them.
🕐 Opening Hours
Approximately 08:00 AM to 07:00 PM.
💵 Entrance Fee / Ticket Price
Since the area is private, the entrance fee is symbolic — just 2 ringgit (0.49 USD) per person.
🚶 How to Get There
The waterfall is located in the northeast of the island, not far from the road. The most convenient way to get there is by rented transport or taxi (Durian Waterfall on the map). There is a spacious free parking lot right at the entrance, and it's a 5-minute walk from there to the farthest point of the waterfall.
Detailed information about taxis and rentals with prices is available in the guide Transport in Langkawi, How to Get Around.
