What to see in Kislovodsk in 1 day on your own: three ready-made routes for every taste

One day in Kislovodsk isn't much, but even in such a short time you can see the main things if you know the route in advance. In this article, we've gathered three tried-and-tested options from personal experience, which we've labeled as follows: classic (with a cable car and viewpoints), active mountain (for those who love to walk a lot), and cultural (with museums and a cathedral). Choose your pace, check the map, and get the most out of your experience without unnecessary rushing. All routes are based on personal experience, photos are real, not stock.

💡 Important tips before the route

Kislovodsk is a resort where the main treasures are not only narzan but also nature. But to ensure the day goes without disappointment, consider a few points in advance.

Weather decides everything. On a cloudy or rainy day, the viewpoints aren't impressive: you can't see Elbrus, the mountains look flat, and the walk becomes uncomfortable. Be sure to check the forecast before heading out. Bring an umbrella, a raincoat, or (ideally) a membrane hiking windbreaker — it protects against both wind and unexpected downpours.

⛅ Weather and gear

In summer, it gets light early in Kislovodsk — you can start your route as early as 7 AM while it's not hot and there are few people. In autumn and spring, start no later than 9:00 AM. Footwear — only comfortable, with good traction. Canvas sneakers on flat soles or new sneakers that aren't broken into yet will turn a walk into torture. Hiking boots or any reliable sneakers with cushioning are the best choice.

🚗 How to save energy: electric cars and the cable car

The main problem with a one-day route is the high pedestrian load, especially uphill. But you can reduce it by covering part of the way by electric cars (they start from the Kolonnada) or the cable car. Current prices from the Kolonnada for 2026:

Cost of electric cars and cable car from the Kolonnada
Destination / point Price (rub.)
Valley of Roses 300 USD.
Lower cable car station 400 USD.
Temple of Air 400 USD.
"Krasnoye Solnyshko" Viewpoint 700 USD.

The cable car operates from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM (ticket offices close at 5:30 PM). Ascent or descent — 300 rub. one way.

But important! The cost and schedule of the cable car can change without notice. Also, due to weather or other technical reasons, the cable car may be closed (and this happens quite often). You'll have to figure it out on the spot and be ready to use a backup option - walking.

📱 Offline maps and navigation

In Kislovodsk Park and on mountain trails, the connection can be unstable, and signs don't always lead where you need to go. Download the Organic Maps or Maps.me app in advance (they're free) and download the offline map of Stavropol Krai. Add all the key points from the route from our map of Kislovodsk — it will save your nerves and time.

🚗 Route #1. Classic: park, cable car, and viewpoints

Kislovodsk National Park — the starting point of the classic one-day route
Kislovodsk Park — you'll get here a few minutes after starting from the Kolonnada

For whom: for those who want to see as much as possible in a day but aren't ready for long uphill walks. This route is the most balanced in terms of effort and impressions.

Route timeline

  • 09:00 – 11:30 — walk from the Narzan Gallery along Kurortny Boulevard, past the Kolonnada, Demon's Grotto, Mirror Pond, "Balancing Rocks," and Glass Stream to the Valley of Roses.
  • 12:00 – 13:00 — lunch near the Valley of Roses ("Valley of Roses" cafe or "Temple of Air" restaurant).
  • 13:30 – 14:30 — ascent by cable car to Sinyaya Mountain (300 rub. one way). From the top — excellent views of the park.
  • 14:30 – 16:30 — descent on foot along the trail: Temple of Air → "Krasnoye Solnyshko" viewpoint (Lermontov monument) → Red Stones → Cascade Staircase.
  • 17:00 – 19:00 — rest and dinner on Kurortny Boulevard. In the evening, the atmosphere here comes alive: street performers, artists, souvenir market, lots of vacationers. If desired, you can visit the Wax Museum or the Exotic Animal Exhibition.

What you will see

You'll walk along the main walking artery of the resort — Kurortny Boulevard, see the famous Kolonnada, peek into the grotto where Lermontov's Demon "lives," admire the perfectly smooth surface of Mirror Pond and the amazing balancing stone pyramids. The Valley of Roses during blooming season (July–August) is a real flower firework. The cable car will give you a bird's-eye view, and the descent on foot will introduce you to the park's best viewpoints: Temple of Air, Krasnoye Solnyshko, and the picturesque Cascade Staircase.

⛰ Route #2. For mountain lovers: without the cable car, with the Arbor of Seven Winds

Arbor of Seven Winds — the main goal of the mountain route in Kislovodsk
Arbor of Seven Winds — the highest viewpoint in the vicinity of Kislovodsk

For whom: for those who are ready to walk a lot and actively uphill, want to see the highest accessible viewpoint — the Arbor of Seven Winds.

This route is physically more challenging than the first. The elevation gain for the day will be over 600 meters, and the total distance around 15–18 km. But the impression of the 360-degree panorama is worth it.

Route timeline

  • 08:00 – 11:00 — morning walk from the Narzan Gallery to the Valley of Roses (as in the first route). Start earlier to leave time for the mountain part.
  • 11:00 – 12:30 — ascent on foot to the upper cable car station (via the Temple of Air). At a relaxed pace — about 1.5 hours uphill.
  • 12:30 – 13:30 — lunch at the top. The cafe at the upper cable car station is open from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The views from the terrace are a great reward for the climb.
  • 13:30 – 15:00 — walk to the Arbor of Seven Winds and the "Krasnoye Solnyshko" viewpoint (these points are on the same trail, no need to loop).
  • 15:00 – 17:00 — descent on foot via the Red Stones and Cascade Staircase (or descend by cable car — see options below).
  • 17:30 – 19:30 — evening Kurortny Boulevard: dinner, walk, entertainment.

Two descent options

Option A. Descent on foot (for the hardy). From the Arbor of Seven Winds, continue along the trail — without returning to the cable car — via "Krasnoye Solnyshko," Red Stones, and Cascade Staircase straight to the center. This way you'll see the maximum and won't make unnecessary loops. Descent time — 1.5–2 hours.

Option B. Descent by cable car (gentle). After the Arbor of Seven Winds, return to the upper cable car station (about 20–30 minutes). Descend for 300 rub. Then walk from the lower station to the Cascade Staircase and exit onto the Pedestrian Alley of Lenina Avenue. There you can drink free narzan, slavyanskaya, and yessentuki at the Rebrovsky street pump room and leisurely walk to Kurortny Boulevard. This option saves energy and gives more time for an evening promenade.

🏫 Route #3. Cultural and gentle: minimum climbing, maximum history

An unusually shaped skull in the Historical and Local Lore Museum 'Fortress', Kislovodsk
An amazing exhibit in the fortress-museum - an elongated skull

For whom: for those who don't want to or can't walk uphill much, and also for those interested in museums, architecture, and history.

Route timeline

  • 09:00 – 11:30 — morning walk from the Narzan Gallery to the Valley of Roses (a standard beautiful stretch without serious elevation gain).
  • 11:30 – 12:30 — return to the center. You can walk back (30–40 minutes), take an electric taxi (300 USD), or a regular taxi (about 150 USD).
  • 12:30 – 13:30 — lunch in the center. Many options on Kurortny Boulevard and adjacent streets: canteens (set meal 250–350 USD), cafes with an average bill of 600–800 USD, )fast food.
  • 13:30 – 15:00"Fortress" Museum (300 USD, )children under 16 free). This is the main historical museum of the city, located in an old Russian fortress from the early 19th century. The exhibition tells about the founding of the resort and the life of the first settlers. An alternative is the National Park Visitor Center (250 USD) on Kurortny Boulevard: interactive, modern, with virtual reality and a children's hall.
  • 15:00 – 16:00St. Nicholas Cathedral (free). The main church of Kislovodsk, a majestic building in the city center. It's open from 06:30 to 19:30, entry is free.
  • 16:30 – 19:00 — evening Kurortny Boulevard. The perfect time for dinner, a walk, and entertainment: Wax Museum, Exotic Animal Exhibition, or just relaxing on a bench by the fountain.

This route has almost no uphill sections (only a slight incline on the boulevard), so it's suitable for walks with older children and for those recovering from treatment.
