General information

Taman (Taman) is a village in the Krasnodar Territory on the territory of the Taman Peninsula. It is located 210 kilometers from the capital of the Krasnodar region, and only 6 kilometers from the new Crimean bridge connecting Crimea with the "mainland" (Taman on the map). This is a fairly large settlement, about 10,000 people live here permanently. Taman is located on the shore of the Taman Bay, which is located on the border of the Kerch Strait between the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea. At the same time, it is considered that the bay is part of the Black Sea, therefore, when they talk about a vacation in Taman, they mean a vacation on the Black Sea.

A little history

The history of the first settlements on the site of the present Taman begins in the VI century BC, when the Greeks from the island of Lesbos founded the ancient city of Hermonassa. In the future, the owners of the city repeatedly changed, and each gave it its own name. At least the following are known: Tamatarch, Matluka, Samkerts, Samkush, Tumen-Tarkhan. The most sonorous name it received in the X century, when it was called Temutarakan, which is believed to have come from the Turkic pronunciation of "the city of tarkan Taman". Of course, all these changes of names and owners of the city have enriched the history of these places, which the village is now famous for.

Rest in Taman

Of course, you can read on some guide sites on the Internet that Taman is a wonderful beach resort with a lot of entertainment and attractions, ideal for any kind of holiday. But the objective reality is very far from such descriptions, and we urge you to be extremely careful when choosing Taman as a place to relax. Our opinion is that Taman is perfect for a stop for two or three days to get acquainted with its historical sights. Or you can limit yourself to a trip here in the form of a day trip from more developed resorts Anapa, Gelendzhik, Golubitskaya and others in this part of the region. But whether it's worth going here for the entire period of your vacation, read on.

So, what is Taman for tourists? The resort is located on the Black Sea coast, but only the most unassuming tourists can consider it as a full-fledged beach resort. In our opinion, this is generally one of the most unsuccessful resort villages on the Taman Peninsula.

There is only one beach here, located in the very center of the resort. Moreover, it is rocky and pebbly, and not sandy, as in other resorts in this part of the coast. Usually it is because of the sandy beaches that people go to the Taman Peninsula and the Sea of Azov, if you prefer pebble beaches, it is better to go to the Black Sea in Sochi, Arkhipo-Osipovka and other resorts south of Gelendzhik, or to the Crimea. The water in Taman will not be very pleased with transparency, especially during bad weather and wind. Infrastructure in Taman

It is sad in Taman and with the tourist infrastructure. Perhaps over time, due to the opening of the Crimean bridge and the appearance of direct trains to Taman station, the situation will change, but so far there is almost nothing for tourists here. Group excursions are not for sale, there is no entertainment, there are no canteens, there is no walking park area or embankment. From the tourist there is only a small market with goods for recreation at the entrance to the beach (on Pronina Street), several cafes stylized under the Greek or Cossack theme, kebabs, draft beer and drinks, branded wine shops. On the beach there are entertainments for children such as rental of gyroscuters and children's electric cars, a "country" trampoline, a shooting gallery of balls, and that's it. There is not even any entertainment on the water. None at all!

There is no public transport here, the Yandex.go app does not work. Local taxi drivers "bombed" and official taxis usually "catch" passengers in the center near the bus station to take them to the hotel or back. You can order a taxi by phone.

The situation is a little better with the usual urban infrastructure. Most of it is concentrated in the center on Pushkin Street near the bus station. There is a large grocery market, a supermarket "Magnit" and "Magnit-cosmetics", electronics and industrial goods stores, pharmacies, ATMs of Sberbank and VTB, a branch of Sberbank. Several chain supermarkets are scattered across the territory of Taman, there are no shopping centers.

Hotels and accommodation in Taman, where to stay

There are three dozen accommodation options in Taman, most of which are private apartments or guest houses. There are no resort hotels here at all, but there are several accommodation facilities stylized as a traditional Kuban.

Accommodation in Taman can be found without problems at any time, but budget options are better to book in advance. The fact is that the village is very popular with seasonal workers who come here to build capital facilities in the neighborhood (bridge, railway, port).

If you have a question where it is better to stay in Taman (in which place to choose a hotel) in order to be as close to the beach as possible, then you just need to choose a place as close as possible to the main passage to the beach along Pronina or Schmidt Street (Tamani beach on the map).

Weather in Taman, tourist seasons

• 🌞 You need to go from June to August. This is the beach tourist season, just keep in mind that the beginning of June can be cool, rainy and windy.

• ⛅ You can go in May and September. This is the beginning of the season and the velvet season respectively. During these months it may be cool for a comfortable rest and swimming, but the prices are lower.

• 🌨 Do not go from October to April. These are too cold months for a beach holiday, at this time the resort falls asleep without tourists.

How to get to Taman

The resort is separated from Krasnodar by 210 kilometers, from Moscow by 1500 kilometers. It is most convenient to get here for recreation by your own transport, but if this is not possible, then you can get there by public transport. You can do this by plane through one of the airports of the Krasnodar Territory, by buses with a transfer in Krasnodar, Anapa or Temryuk, and since 2019 it has been possible to get here on passing trains to the Crimea.

You can get here by plane through one of the nearest airports with a transfer by bus, taxi or train (train). Here are the nearest airports and the distance from them along the highway:

• Anapa airport "Vityazevo" - 75 kilometers.
• Gelendzhik Airport - 160 kilometers.
• Krasnodar airport "Pashkovsky" - 230 kilometers.

Usually the cheapest tickets from Moscow and the regions are offered to Krasnodar, but it is much more convenient to choose a flight to Anapa, since it will be much easier and cheaper to get to Taman from there.

It is most convenient to get from the airports upon arrival by taxi or by ordering a tourist transfer. Travel time from 1 hour.

You can order a taxi at the airport counter or in the parking lot when exiting the terminal, but if you need to save money, it's better to order through the Yandex.Taxi applications, the trip will cost from 1800 rubles.

If you want to get there comfortably, you can order a ready-made tourist transfer in an individual car. It will cost a little more than a taxi ride, but the driver will meet you on arrival at the airport, and you can immediately go to the resort. You can order a transfer on the website kiwitaxi.ru.

Since the opening of the railway connection through the Crimean bridge, it has become possible to get by train to the Taman-passenger station, which is located on the borders of Taman, 6 kilometers from the center (railway station on the map). Most trains going to Crimea stop here, and at the time of writing (2020) it can be reached from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kislovodsk, Yekaterinburg, Ufa, Samara, Saratov, Volgograd and other cities along the way. Upon arrival at the station, you can get to the place of rest in Taman by taxi from 200 rubles, the cheapest when ordering through the Yandex.Money app.

In the center of Taman on Pushkin Street, 5 (bus station on the map) there is a small bus station, or rather, just a ticket office. It is open from 06:00 to 17:00 with two breaks 11:00-12:00 and 13:40-14:10. It serves only intraregional transportation (in the Krasnodar Territory), there are no bus flights from other regions.

Attractions and entertainment in Taman, what to see and do

Taman is the only resort on the Taman Peninsula that we would recommend to visit for lovers of attractions, especially historical places. People come here even from the resorts of Anapa, Gelendzhik and others in the Krasnodar Territory. The basis of the sights of Taman is the museum complex, which includes three must-visit places: the house-museum of M.Y. Lermontov in Taman, the archaeological museum, the open–air museum of the Hermonassa-Tmutarakan settlement. You can get acquainted with all the sights of Taman in 1-2 days, but you need to take into account that Monday is a day off in all museums.

As for tourist attractions, they are absent in Taman, there are not even traditional beach entertainments. As a result, in addition to sightseeing, relaxing on the beach, or sitting in one of the local cafes or restaurants, there is absolutely nothing to do here. The nearest places where you can go to have fun during the day, including with children: Golubitskaya, Vityazevo, Anapa.
