Public transport is very developed in Kazan. There are subways, buses, trolleybuses and trams. Someone may be surprised by the complete absence of ubiquitous minibuses, but they have not been here for a long time, and the convenience of passenger movement does not suffer from this at all, but rather the opposite. For all public transport, there is a single fare for trips (25 USD) and a payment method. Many stops are equipped with electronic boards that display route numbers and time until the arrival of the next Transport. In general, the public transport system in Kazan is very advanced, and you can even see the position of buses on the map or using a mobile application.
In addition to traditional public transport in Kazan, there are tourist buses on the Hop-on, Hop-off system. They are convenient, but, unfortunately, their work in Kazan is not very stable.
There is no need to study the entire scheme of Public Transport for tourists. Below we will describe the types of transport in Kazan, the order of their use and the most useful routes for tourists. If you have difficulties finding the right route or transport in Kazan, contact the locals: in most cases, they will help lost tourists with all their goodwill. So, how and what you can move around Kazan:
On foot
The historical center of Kazan is not so big. It is concentrated in Kremlin District and along Bauman Street, which is 1400 meters long. It is quite possible to walk around the historical center and get acquainted with the sights on foot. It may even happen that during a tourist trip to Kazan you will use transport only to arrive at the hotel and leave it.
By car
If you prefer to travel by car, please note that in the tourist center of Kazan, outside the courtyards and territories of hotels, parking on the roadway is paid (30-70 rubles/hour, depending on the popularity of parking), so when choosing a hotel or accommodation, check the availability of free parking nearby. If you have to use paid parking, then hourly payment is made using a mobile application, SMS messages or a bank card at the parking meter. You can find out the map of Kazan parking lots and their cost, payment methods on the official website parkingkzn.ru.
The minimum parking time is 30 minutes. Then the time is charged for 15 minutes. Learn more about Kazan parking, including where to find free parking, here.
The roads in the tourist center are narrow, many one-way directions, double solid lines with no way to turn around. In the city and at the entrances to it, there are a lot of cameras for automatically recording violations of speeding, driving on Red, leaving the stop line. Personally, our opinion (the authors of the site) is that it is more convenient for tourists to move around Kazan on foot or by public transport. If you decide that the car is still more convenient for you, you can rent a car and use it during your vacation:
Taxi
Taxi in Kazan costs about the same as in most other cities of the Russian Federation. Of course, Yandex. money came here. Using a taxi to order by phone or through online ordering is Cheaper Than catching a car on the street. Most of the official taxis are equipped with meters, the fare is paid at the rate about 20 rubles/kilometer.
Estimated cost of a taxi ride in Kazan:
- Kazan Airport - tourist area - from 600 rubles
- Railway station-tourist area - from 90 rubles
- Tourist area-Kremlin - from 80 rubles
Buses, trolleybuses and trams
All ground public transport in Kazan operates in a single scheme. Payment for travel can be made in the cabin to the driver or conductor, or using a transport card that is valid in all three modes of transport.
For tourists, it is more convenient to make a one-time payment for a trip, in which case the cost of the trip will be 35 rubles when paying in cash. Payment using a transport card is more profitable, the trip will cost 27-30 rubles, but the card must first be purchased for 75 rubles, and then also replenished. And the system of its use is quite complex. What's worse, you can not use a transport card to pay for one trip by several people, i.e. if you come as a family, everyone will have to purchase a card.
You can also pay for using a contactless bank card, and then the fare will be the same as when paying with a transport card, so we recommend this method for tourists as the most convenient and profitable.
You can buy a transport card (electronic TC) at the post office or at the kiosks of JSC Gorpechat, the cost is 75 rubles. You can replenish the card at the post office, in the Bank of Tatarstan and the Bank of Kazan, in the payment terminals "Eleksnet", and many payment points around the city. Bus, trolleybuses and trams run according to schedules in the period from about 06:00 to 22:00 (all in different ways, plus or minus 30 minutes). In the evening, the intervals between flights are longer than in the afternoon, it is sometimes difficult to wait for Transport.
Metro
Kazan Metro consists of only one branch and 10 stations. For tourists, it is convenient that it passes through the tourist area, making three stops there: Kremlin, Tukaya Square, Sukonnaya Sloboda. Moreover, the Kremlin and Tukai Square are located on the edges of Bauman Street, and the metro line itself passes under the street.
The Metro operates from 06:00 to 24:00, the interval of movement from 6 minutes. Entrance is paid using tokens, smart cards or contactless bank card, the cost of the trip is from 27 to 55 rubles, depending on the payment method. As in other Russian subways, you can go down to the Kazan Metro and ride there for one trip as much as you like back and forth.
For tourists, it is most convenient to buy Simple Tokens immediately before the trip at the cash desk or in vending machines, or to pay for the entrance at the turnstile with a contactless bank card. The trip will cost 27-35 rubles. The purchased token is lowered into the slot on the turnstile, the green light turns on, and you can pass. Children under 7 years old are free of charge. To do this, you need to contact the controller at the entrance, and they conduct the children separately. Do not take children with you through the turnstile. You can also buy a smart card for the required number of trips (from 1 to 49), in which case the trip will cost 27 rubles + 45 rubles for a smart card.
Free Wi-Fi is available in the Metro.

Tourist bus Hop-on, Hop-Off
In Kazan, there is a system of tourist buses of the Hop-on, Hop-off type. This means that a specialized bus for tourists runs along a certain ring route, having bought a ticket for which you can travel along this route as much as you like for some time, and at the same time you can freely get off or take the bus anywhere it stops to see the sights closest to the stop. The bus route and stops are laid out in such a way as to cover the maximum number of attractions. Beautiful double-decker buses operate on the route in Kazan.

- Number of stops on the Route: 10
- The main landing points where it is easiest to take the bus: Tukaya square, May 1 square (in front of the entrance to the Kremlin)
