Kazan Airport infrastructure: WiFi, cafes, Duty Free and the "Polyot" hotel

Kazan Airport is modern and well-developed. There's free WiFi, cafes and restaurants, ATMs, currency exchange, Duty Free shops for international departures and upon arrival. Within walking distance of the airport is the "Polyot" hotel. Information boards and signs are duplicated in English and Tatar for the convenience of foreign guests.

There are downsides though. There's a lack of information boards and signs right at the airport entrance, making it hard to figure out where to go for check-in the first time. The waiting area is small and too cramped, there aren't even phone charging stations. And, of course, the common problem of all Russian airports – unreasonably high prices for drinks and food.

Kazan Airport terminals (1, 1A, and 2): how not to get confused

The airport has 3 terminals: 1, 1A, and 2. Terminals 1 and 1A are the main passenger terminals, while Terminal 2 is a high-comfort terminal for VIP passengers and business aviation passengers. There's no clear division of flights by direction between the terminals, so depending on your ticket, you may arrive/depart from Terminal 1 or 1A. The departure terminal information is indicated on your electronic or paper flight ticket and is displayed on the airport's information boards.

All three terminals are within walking distance of each other, and the main passenger terminals 1 and 1A are connected by an indoor walkway. Public transport (buses and trains) goes to these terminals. There's an indoor walkway leading to the train station.

A convenient interactive terminal map is available on the airport's official website (kazan.aero), but in most cases you won't need it, as the terminal layout is simple and there are clear signs everywhere.

How to get from Kazan Airport to the city

The airport is 26 kilometers from the center of Kazan and is connected to the city by public transport. Getting there is easy by aeroexpress (train), bus, or taxi. The airport also has car rentals and parking for short and long-term stays.

  An official airport taxi to the center of Kazan will cost from 1000 rubles, taking 30-60 minutes depending on traffic. You can order a taxi at the counter in the arrivals hall, or book in advance using the search form below. You can get there almost twice as cheap (from 500-700 USD) by taxi if you order a car through the YandexGo service or use a local city taxi service by pre-booking. You can also take a taxi from the parking lot when exiting the terminal.

  A more comfortable and convenient version of a taxi is booking a tourist transfer. You can book it in advance while preparing for your trip, and the driver will meet you at the airport with a sign and take you to your desired location.   At least 8 electric trains run daily between the airport and the Kazan-Passazhirsky train station in the city center, taking 28 minutes, costing 150 rubles. An indoor pedestrian crossing leads from Terminals 1 and 1A to the station. Upon arrival at the central train station (Kazan train station on the map), you can walk to the tourist district and Bauman pedestrian street in 15-20 minutes, or take city public transport. Many bus and trolleybus routes pass near the station; you can find the one you need using the electronic information boards or by asking locals.

• Bus #197: the cheapest, but with transfers

  • 🕑 Travel time: 40-90 minutes
  • 🎫 Operating hours: 06:00 – 22:00
  • Frequency: 20-30 minutes (very rare after 18:00)

  You can get from the airport to Kazan by bus #197, the stop is at the exit of Terminal 1A. But this route is not very convenient and quite long, plus it doesn't go through the tourist district. So you'll either have to ride with transfers on other buses, or go to the "Prospekt Pobedy" metro station, and then transfer to the metro to get to "Ploshchad Tukaya" or "Kremlyovskaya" stations.
