General Information, Vacation
The Romantik settlement is part of the Arkhyz resort, although it is located 10 kilometers from the village of Arkhyz itself (Romantik on the map). It can be said that it is the skiing part of the resort, since this is where the lifts and ski slopes are located, while Arkhyz itself has none. To be clearer:
- Arkhyz village – this is where tourists usually stay and spend their time, as there are more accommodation options, tourist infrastructure, shops, a market, and cafes. It is essentially the tourist center of the resort and the best place for summer vacations.
- The Romantik settlement, or the Arkhyz Ski Resort, exists exclusively for skiing in the winter season. This is where the cable cars and lifts, ski slopes, a small number of hotels, and infrastructure solely for tourist stays are located, all of which are quite expensive. Therefore, even during the high winter season (ski season), most vacationers still stay in the village of Arkhyz and commute daily by transport to go skiing.
To make it even clearer, let's try to explain the difference in simple words:
- The atmosphere in Arkhyz is simpler, like in a village. Prices here are lower for everything, from accommodation to food. There's the main Lenin Street, which has a sidewalk, cafes, travel agencies, shops, and market stalls.
- Romantik has a completely different atmosphere – like a premium resort where everything is expensive and posh. The pedestrian zone is small and sterile; tourists with backpacks and trekking poles don't walk around here.
The infrastructure in Romantik is currently very poorly developed, but the settlement is expanding and being built up, and the resort's development plans even include the launch of an airport in the village of Zelenchukskaya. For now, there are only a couple of grocery stores, a market with souvenirs, several cafes and fast-food kiosks, and ski equipment and gear rental. However, Romantik has a pedestrian zone for tourists, and it's very modern and well-designed.
A big problem in the settlement is the lack of free parking spaces. No parking signs are installed everywhere, and tow trucks are actively working, taking cars to the impound lot on the outskirts of the village. To avoid such problems, you need to park your car in paid parking lots. There are two types of parking here: automatic and regular. Automatic costs up to 800 rubles per hour (first 15 minutes free). Another option is a regular parking lot on a dirt area for 500 rubles/night.
Hotels and Accommodation in Romantik and Where is the Best Place to Stay
There are several new and comfortable hotels in Romantik, but the prices are by no means budget-friendly. If your finances don't allow you to stay there, you can choose accommodation in the village of Arkhyz, where there are many budget guest houses, recreation centers, and private accommodation. Moreover, it's worth saying objectively that in summer it's better to stay in Arkhyz rather than in Romantik, as it's cheaper, the infrastructure is better developed, and it's easier to get to the start of hiking trails. And when staying in Arkhyz in winter, you won't have any difficulty getting to the ski lifts, since if you have a ski pass, you can use special shuttle buses with space for carrying ski equipment for free.

When is the Best Time to Go: Choosing the Tourist Season
The Romantik settlement is primarily a ski resort, but people also come here for vacations in the summer. The weather and conditions for recreation vary greatly by season, so a brief description for each season is given below:
Winter (December-February). This is the high season and time for skiing, but winter is not at all suitable for hiking mountain trails. Winters here are mild, severe frosts are rare. Temperatures range from -8℃ at night to +3℃ during the day. There is plenty of snow, and the ski season opens in December. Experienced skiers recommend skiing in February and March, as the snow is best for it at this time.
-
Spring (March-May). In spring, you can still ski, but in April the snow is already too wet and sticky, and by May it begins to melt, becoming unsuitable for skiing. The ski season officially closes at the end of April.
Regular (non-ski) tourist trips are possible during this time but not recommended, as it's too rainy (snowy) and cold for hiking to attractions.
Summer (June-August). This is the ideal time to get acquainted with the nature and beauty of Arkhyz and the region as a whole. All hiking tourist routes are open, cable cars operate for those who don't want to hike up. But in June, it can still be cool for overnight stays in tents.
-
Autumn (September-November). In September and October, it's still acceptable for hiking and sightseeing, but it gets cool, especially in the mountains. For long hikes with overnight stays in a tent, you should dress warmly, use a sleeping bag with a comfort temperature of +5°C. By November, snow already falls, and hiking trails become inaccessible. Some ski enthusiasts start skiing as early as late November, but the ski season officially starts only in December.
The weather in Romantik in spring, summer, and autumn is very changeable and unpredictable, and can change dramatically several times a day. We (the site authors) have even encountered a situation where authoritative weather sources on the internet showed rain, when in fact it was excellent sunny weather, let alone a forecast for one to three days ahead. But overall, the weather here most often follows this pattern: morning and early afternoon are sunny and cloudless; around midday, the sky becomes overcast, and there may be brief rain at any time in the afternoon. Considering this, it's best to set out on tourist routes early in the morning to finish most of the route in the first half of the day.

How to Get to the Romantik Settlement
Romantik is located 10 kilometers from Arkhyz, and the same transport that goes to Arkhyz goes there. Getting here is not easy, as there is practically no direct transport from Russian cities. Rare direct intercity buses connect Arkhyz with Stavropol, Kislovodsk, Mineralnye Vody, Nevinnomyssk, Cherkessk, Teberda, and Zelenchukskaya, and you'll have to get here via a transfer through these cities. By plane, people usually get here via Mineralnye Vody Airport, and the nearest train station is in Nevinnomyssk. You can only get here directly by your own car, and this is probably the best way to get to know Arkhyz and the entire republic. See the detailed instructions on how to get to Arkhyz here.
How to Get to Romantik from Arkhyz
If you stay in the village of Arkhyz in winter, you will need to use transport to get to the lifts in Romantik. Fortunately, there are no problems with this; everything is well organized, and there is even free transport.
A taxi ride from Arkhyz to Romantik will cost about 700 rubles per car, which is, of course, very expensive. During the high season (winter), local drivers organize transportation to the lifts in private cars for groups, charging 500 rubles per person. You can order a car through the YandexGo app, but sometimes you have to wait a very long time for a car.
Passing buses from Arkhyz to Romantik run several times a day, departing at: 07:30, 09:30, 11:10, 11:30, 12:40, 15:20, 17:10. Departures from Romantik: 08:10, 12:00, 13:30, 14:45, 15:30, 16:30, 17:30. However, the schedule may change.
In winter, comfortable shuttle buses run between Arkhyz and Romantik with space for ski equipment, and if you have a ski pass for the lifts, the ride is free.
Attractions, What to See
The only attraction and activity directly in Romantik (besides skiing) is the cable car. In winter, it is used by those who enjoy skiing down the snowy slopes, and in summer it operates in excursion mode (sightseeing ticket).
Also, along the lifts and ski slopes, there is an equipped tourist route (ecological trail) that leads along the slopes to an altitude of 2250 meters to one of the upper cable car stations. In addition, from Romantik, it is easy to visit any of the pedestrian or combined car-pedestrian tourist routes to waterfalls, mountain lakes, passes, and peaks that are part of the attractions of the entire Arkhyz resort.
The only question is how to visit all this. If you are in your own car, you can drive to many places on your own, but with certain conditions, since not every car can go everywhere. However, for this you can switch to a tour jeep or ATV, or continue on foot. We have detailed all this in a separate instruction: Arkhyz by car - what to see on your own, routes, roads, and parking.
There are also ready-made tours here, but compared to the village of Arkhyz, they are a bit harder to find. You will need to be good at communicating, negotiating, and haggling if you don't want to overpay. The fact is that the majority of tour offers are on Lenin Street in the village and at Taulu Glade, and there is no such concentration in Romantik. But as an option, you can use online booking (sites below) or arrange by phone (the entire settlement is plastered with tour advertisements):
