New Athos cave - this is the most famous of the tourist caves in Abkhazia. It is, of course, not the largest and deepest, but the most visited by tourists. If you really choose one of the Abkhazian caves to visit in the first place, then definitely this one.
It is filled with bizarre stalactites and stalagmites, Lakes, very spacious, equipped with Bridges for easy movement and beautiful colorful lighting. Six halls out of nine are available for tourists to visit, one of which hosts a conditional musical performance demonstrating unique acoustic properties. But the most interesting thing is that there is a mini-railway here, along which you will get from the entrance to the starting point of the tour.
Visiting the New Athos cave is possible only as part of excursion groups, which are formed when buying tickets, and you can not walk around it yourself. Excursions are formed and sent as tourists arrive, and in high season (summer) this happens very quickly, and most likely you still have to wait for your turn. In winter, excursions are sent with a set of groups of at least 40 people. The tour time is one and a half hours. To visit, it is best to dress warmer, because inside it is always cool – no more than 14 degrees. Also, before you start, do not forget to go to the toilet (it is paid, 10 USD), it will not work inside.
By the way, in Abkhazia there are four caves at once, which took all the lines of the deepest caves in the world, but they are inaccessible to ordinary tourists.

🚶 How to get there
the cave is on the outskirts of New Athos, 16 Chanba Street (cave on the map). Getting from the city center is easy on foot. Nearby there is paid parking for private transport, 150 rubles.
From other resorts, the easiest way is to purchase a group tour at a cost of 300 rubles (without the cost of entrance tickets), or to get to New Athos by taxi, plying between all the main resorts along the main highway E60. But a trip on your own by bus will hardly be cheaper than with a tour.
