Blue Lake (Lake Tskhyna) - a small lake in the Gagra region of Abkhazia, known for its turquoise water, the color of which gives the mineral lapis lazuli. This is one of the most beautiful and memorable sights of Abkhazia, but it is rarely visited separately, making a short stop here on the way to Lake Ritsa.
Blue lake is of karst origin and very small in size, only 30 by 20 meters, but the depth according to some estimates is 80 meters. It is never covered with ice, and its temperature all year round is kept at 10 degrees. Another feature – there are no fish and other animals. Do not be surprised that the water in the Blue Lake seems muddy. This is due to the very large water column, since the depth is very large.
Swimming in the lake is forbidden, it is too cold, but you can go knee-deep in the water. People come here just to admire the beauty of the lake and its picturesque surroundings, to take pictures, including for money, a photo with a peacock or in traditional local clothes is offered here. Also nearby is a small artificial waterfall. On the way from the parking lot to the lake stretches a market with shops selling souvenirs, honey, wine, Chacha, cheese, as usual at inflated prices. Across the street from the lake across the river organized zip-line ride (trolls), the cost of 500 rubles in both directions. And of course, many legends are associated with the lake, which are told to tourists during excursions.

the lake is located in Ritsa National Park, access to which is paid (environmental fee): adults – 350 rubles; children 8-12 years old – 150 rubles; children under 8 years old – free of charge. The fee is paid for entering the park at the checkpoint, you do not need to pay separately for each attraction, including the Blue Lake. The cost of the excursion to Lake Ritsa (including a visit to the Blue Lake) from Gagra – from 500 rubles+entrance fee to the park.
🚶 How to get there
the lake is 30 kilometers from the center Gagra resort on the way to the mountain lake Ritsa in the territory of the Ritsa National Park (Blue Lake on the map. Public transport does not go here, you can get there by private car, taxi, with a tour, hitchhiking or cycling. The road to the lake is good, any car will pass, and the lake itself is right next to the road, there is a parking space (free of charge). Excursions to the Blue Lake are not conducted separately, but a stop here is included in excursions to Lake Ritsa. Also along the route visit the waterfalls Milk, Men's tears, women's tears, GEG waterfall. The same road further leads to the village of Auadhara.
