Description and is it worth a visit
Statue of Jesus Christ (Jesus Christ Statue) – the main attraction of the city of Vung Tau and the tallest statue of Christ in Vietnam. Its height is 32 meters, which is only 6 meters less than the statue of Jesus in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). The statue was erected by the Catholic minority on the small peak of Mount Nuino (Nui Nho or Tao Fung) in 1974. The statue of Jesus looks towards the South China Sea.
This place is included in the list of must-see places in the city, organized groups from Ho Chi Minh City are also brought here. However, to get to the statue, you will have to climb uphill by about 700 steps and plus more steps inside the statue. This path symbolizes the "Vietnamese ladder to God." Everyone can climb, including small children, as recreation areas with benches and observation decks are equipped on the way.
The statue of Jesus is made of white marble and is mounted on a concrete pedestal 10 meters high, the facade of which is decorated with bas-reliefs. The arms of Jesus are spread out to the sides, and the span between them is 18.4 meters.
You can climb the statue itself, and for free. For this purpose, a spiral staircase of 133 steps is equipped inside. At the shoulder level of Jesus there are viewing platforms that can accommodate no more than 6 people at a time. The view from above is undoubtedly worth the climb.
There is a pilgrimage center on the territory of the complex, therefore, the appearance of visitors is strictly monitored at the entrance. Open clothing is not allowed: short shorts, skirts and T-shirts. At the same time, free capes are not provided at the entrance, so it is necessary to take care of a suitable appearance in advance. This rule also applies to visiting the statue itself.
In bad weather, the ascent to the statue may be closed. However, at the top, next to the statue, there is a viewing platform, which also offers a wonderful view of the surroundings. Here you can see old cannon guns – the remains of a large military fortress complex of the end of the XIX century, part of the Vung tau fortress.

🚶 How to get there
The statue is located on the small peak of Nuino Mountain (Nui Nho) 136 meters above sea level, it is about 4 km from the center of Vung Tau (Statue of Jesus on the map of Vung Tau).
To get here, you will have to climb the stairs on foot, it will take from 15 to 30 minutes. In fact, you will have to climb about 110 meters, since the beginning of the stairs is slightly above sea level, but even 110 meters is about 36 floors high, and it is not so easy to overcome the heat. In addition, the entire climb will have to go in closed clothes, because the control of the "dress code" is already at the bottom. Theoretically, it is also possible to climb almost to the very top on a motorbike along TượNg Chúa Dang Tay Street. We have seen local residents driving through it, but we have no information whether it is open for tourists to travel.
The entry point to the stairs and the beginning of the ascent is located south of the mountain, this is where you need to take a taxi or walk (entrance to the statue on the map of Vung Tau). A taxi when ordering through the Grab app will cost from 30,000 to 80,000 thousand here (1.14-3.04 USD), mototaxi is twice as cheap. VIE LIMO tourist golf carts are also brought here.
