Description and is it worth visiting
Ho Chi Minh Museum in Hanoi - this is one of the largest and most modern museums in Vietnam. The building is shaped like a lotus flower and is considered to symbolize the noble character of Uncle Ho. Its main exhibition presents more than two thousand documents, articles, photographs and other exhibits illustrating not only the historical events that took place in the life of President Ho Chi Minh but also facts that happened in the world from the end of the 19th century related to Vietnam.
The entire exhibition is structured to emphasize the connection between President Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnamese people, and modernity. According to traditional Vietnamese philosophy, the sky was represented as round and the earth as square, and this idea is clearly traced in the Ceremonial Hall: its round ceiling symbolizes the sky, and the square floor decorated with images of Vietnamese flowers and plants symbolizes the earth, the statue of Ho Chi Minh is located exactly between sky and earth.
But our opinion after visiting this museum is ambiguous. Even more, rather disappointment. The fact is that this is not a traditional museum with exhibits and classical presentation of information, everything is different here. It rather reminded us of a modern art museum with many installations, each based on some historical fact or real exhibit, but it is impossible to understand anything without deep knowledge of history. What else is bad - little information is duplicated in English, mostly everything is only in Vietnamese. And finally, since the museum is free for local residents, it is always filled with noisy visitors, making it simply impossible to focus on getting acquainted with anything here. Considering this, we recommend visiting the Ho Chi Minh Museum only if you have absolutely nowhere else to go and nothing to do.
Important! Access to Ba Dinh Square and all attractions on it, including the Ho Chi Minh Museum, is now restricted by security measures and a dress code. To get here, you need to pass through one of the checkpoints on the south or north side, where all your belongings will be checked. Lighters, weapons and items resembling weapons, even pocket knives, are not allowed. You may also not be allowed in if you are wearing a T-shirt, shorts or a short skirt.
There are no storage lockers for prohibited items. There are no free cloaks, but "hagglers" hover at the entrance offering to buy a cloak for 200,000 dong (30,000 after bargaining).
