Description and is it worth a visit
Da Lat Youth Prison Museum (Da Lat Youth Prison Museum). It is one of the historical and cultural attractions of the city, a place with a tragic and dark history. The prison was created as a "Children's educational center of Dalat", but contrary to the promising name, prisoners were not taught here, but tortured and tested in every possible way for strength. It did not last very long, only 2 years, from 1971 to 1973, during this period more than 600 prisoners aged 12 to 17, including young soldiers who fought in the South, passed such a "school".
Teenagers came here from other prisons in South Vietnam. The purpose of such education was to suppress revolutionary sentiments among the youth of the South, which was under pressure from the United States, and to criticize the communist regime founded by Ho Chi Minh City. In the intervals between torture, conversations, lectures, sermons by Catholic priests aimed at changing consciousness were held with young people.
The prison area includes 2 courtyards, many cells, utility rooms. Boys and girls were kept separately. The division into cells was applied depending on the severity of the offense and the personality of the teenager. The most recalcitrant were kept in solitary cells, the rest in common. In some cells, mannequins are displayed for clarity, characterizing the life situations and the way of life of prisoners.
On the territory there is a separate exposition with personal belongings of prisoners, exhibits showing their hard life. There is a lot of information throughout the complex, posters in Vietnamese and English hang in each room, there are QR codes.
The Children's Prison Museum is a place that is definitely worth a visit to see with your own eyes and feel the dedication and fortitude of Vietnamese youth, despite the trials of hunger and cold, which were often recalled by former prisoners. Painful impressions of visiting this place will remain for a long time.
