Harrison Cemetery in Kandy

At Garrison's old British Cemetery (Garrison Cemetery) in the center Kandy there are 165 graves from the colonial period. All those buried here are British subjects who died between 1817 and 1873, after which it was closed for new burials, as it turned out to be completely filled. For a long time it was abandoned and forgotten, but in 1998 it was restored, tombstones were restored, a fence was installed and even a caretaker was hired. In 2013, this place was visited by Prince Charles.

Today this place is open to anyone. Here you can walk among the ancient graves and read the names and dates of life of the buried people. Pay attention to the age of the deceased, how many of them are young and children, because at that time, and even in such extreme conditions for Europeans, few lived to 40 years.
