Description and is it worth visiting
Sangili Thoppu and Cankili Thoppu (Sangili Thoppu, Cankili Thoppu) is all that remains of the palace of the last king of Jaffna, Cankili Kumaran II, built, according to various estimates, around 1519. Today, only one arch remains of the once majestic structure, destroyed in 1650, standing right along the road. Bullet marks from the times of the civil war in Sri Lanka are still clearly visible on it, giving the place a special, albeit sad historical context.
If you go behind the arch along the path, you can see the foundation of one of the buildings of the palace complex. Another part of the historical ensemble is the Jamuna Eari pool, located nearby. In our opinion, it is not worth going specifically to the arch, but if you are traveling around the Jaffna area, it makes sense to stop here briefly on the way to other attractions to imagine the scale of the former kingdom for a few minutes.
