Description and is it worth a visit
Dutch Kachcheri Ruins and the adjacent old park in Jaffna are a place that will suit those who have already visited the main attractions and are looking for something with a special, slightly abandoned mood. There is little left of the park itself — it gives the impression of being forgotten and neglected. The main interest here is the ruins of the colonial era themselves, which are protected by the state.
We personally heard from the locals two versions about the purpose of these buildings: according to one version, there was a monastery here, according to the other — the building of state administrative offices (kachcheri). Which of the options is correct, we could not find out, perhaps both are true. But walking among the old walls is quite interesting. You can go inside the preserved buildings, and in some places the trees literally entwine the walls with their roots, gradually destroying them, creating an atmosphere vaguely reminiscent of the temples of Angkor Wat in miniature.
Next to the ruins there is an unexpectedly nice and well-maintained playground with carousels, swings, slides and even a climbing wall. What's important is that it's all free.
In general, if you like to take beautiful atmospheric photos, then you are definitely here. In our opinion, this is one of the most beautiful places in Jaffna, it's just a pity that there is no information about the history.
